How's this for controversy: Venezuela gives Danny Glover $$
Quote from the article:
Venezuela Giving Danny Glover $18M to Direct Film on Epic Slave Revolt
by Rory Carroll
CARACAS, Venezuela - Venezuela is to give the American actor Danny Glover almost $18m (£9m) to make a film about a slave uprising in Haiti, with President Hugo Chávez hoping the historical epic will sprinkle Hollywood stardust on his effort to mobilise world public opinion against imperialism and western oppression.
So President Chavez is going to get high praise, and low misdemeanors for giving Danny Glover a bundle of money to make a film about slavery. Read about it here.
Would love to hear some comments about Chavaz, Glover or slavery!

Should be interesting. L'ouverture was one of the greatest men that ever lived. Had Napolean not killed him who knows how Haiti would have been now. Definately much different than the massive poverty and problems associated with poverty.

Danny Glover is a traitor and an embarrassment to our country. I hope American citizens have enough sense to just say no to these movies, and hurt em where it hurts the most. In their pocketbooks.

Well, by now pretty much everyone who hasn't toed the official Bushie party line has been reported by the disinformation media to be a traitor and an embarrassment to this country, so Danny Glover would have a whole lot of company. What, 72% of the country according to the latest polls? And it's really hard to see how making a movie about the revolution that established the second oldest republic in the hemisphere can come to constitute traitorous behavior no matter who's funding it.

You've got to be kidding. Justifiying Chavez's propaganda?
Chavez is funding it just to taunt Bush and the administration.
And what does people disagreeing with the current administration have to do with supporting and taking money from Chavez?

Read this article about Venezuela and tell me that this is not where the U.S. is headed.
The criminal immigrants are squatters on our land, in the future they will demand more and more until we have what is happening in Venezuela. The criminal immigrants will never be happy until they force government officials to take from Legal citizens and give it to them. This behavior is already happening on a small scale and the truth to the matter is that it will continue to get worse until we the American citizens are giving up much more than what we have already given up. The criminal immigrants are flooding are hospitals, flooding are city’s, flooding are welfare system, and they are flooding morgues with American citizens because they are nothing but ignorant peasants who get behind the wheel of their van drunk on tequila and try to mow down each and every one of us as if they were playing a game. They molest are children because they are allowed to get away with it in their homeland, they have murdered American citizens by the thousands since 9/11 as if they were committing genocide on all things American, they gawk at are women as if they were watching the Titanic sink, and then they demand that we give them the very things that American citizens died defending. The criminal immigrants only value what they can take and not what they can earn.
I ask all American citizens…When is it going to be enough? When will you finally stand up and take notice that you are loosing the War for America to the invading horde. Nothing and I mean Nothing good can come of this…Nothing. Tell me please, how third world peasants can make America a better place? Tell me why we need uneducated peasants to do jobs in America? These criminal immigrants are committing genocide against all things American and they are doing it all on your watch!!

As opposed to Bush's propagagnda about Chavez? The latter is the freely and democratically elected President of his country. The elections were certified by various international observers, including the Carter Center. Too bad Bush can't make the same claims. But maybe some people just don't support democracy if the results don't happen to come out the way they want. Look what happened in Palestine. Same deal. Meanwhile, with hundreds of billions of dollars to spend on the project, the Bushies have delivered unto us Iraq. A beacon of democracy if ever there was one. As difficult as things may be for Venezuelans in emerging from decades of brutal exploitation by the oligarchy, it's a safe bet that most of them are very happy that they don't live in Iraq.

What are you, some sort of communist? Do you hate free markets or something? All that's bringing this "invading horde" of yours here is free markets. How can that be a bad thing?
By the way, I think the actual link for your article was...

Sounds like it might be a good movie. One to keep my eye on.
I know very little about Danny Glover's own political views, but making a movie about a slave uprising hardly makes him a traitor, even if it is funded by Venezuela. By that logic, the Bush family are traitors, since a large part of their fortune is tied to Saudi oil; some of the bin Laden family even.
I'm not a big fan of socialism, but all of the wing-nut propaganda against Chavez is really kind of funny. Like him or not, the guy was democratically elected by his people.
