I can already hear the Blackwater haters crying.

WASHINGTON A federal judge dismissed all charges Thursday against five Blackwater Worldwide security guards accused of killing unarmed Iraqi civilians in a crowded Baghdad intersection in 2007.

Citing repeated government missteps, U.S. District Judge Ricardo Urbina dismissed a case that had been steeped in international politics. The shooting in busy Nisoor Square left 17 Iraqis dead and inflamed anti-American sentiment abroad. The Iraqi government wanted the guards to face trial in Iraq and officials there said they would closely watch how the U.S. judicial system handled the case.

The Blackwater guards are patriots who put themselves in danger to safeguard US interests in a combat zone.

It really doesn't matter what some judge says. In the eyes of the world and in the eyes of everybody except the most extreme right wing nutjobs in this country, they are murderous thugs who disgraced their country.

These are the kinds of people the Far Right elevate to hero status.

They are not safeguarding "U.S. interests", they are acting as highly paid mercenaries in a combat zone for financial gain, and U.S. law does not apply to these people. A few have brazenly murdered people and left the country, many more have done things that only they and their fellow mercenaries know they were responsible for. U.S. law does not apply to them in most instances, giving them free reign to shoot up Iraq and Afghanistan.

America's SS.

Their identities are out there so if they ever leave the country they could be picked up for extradition to and prosecution in another country. I think Spain has assumed that role in these types of situations. They could even be sent back to Iraq.

So justice does not matter when your side is accused of violation of rights but does when its the other way around.Who cares about what the world thinks. Too many liberals only worry about being liked and admired. heck; I can tell you how to be liked and admired by the radical muslims;kill some western civilians at their jobs or when with their families.

Good decision. Proper decision.

From the opinion:

Quote:
In their zeal to bring charges against the defendant in this case, the prosecutors and investigators aggressively sought out statements the defendants had been compelled to make to government investigators in the immediate aftermath of the shooting and in the subsequent investigation. In so doing, the government’s trial team repeatedly disregarded the warnings of experienced, senior prosecutors, assigned to the case specifically to advise the trial team on Garrity and Kastigar issues, that this course of action threatened the viability of the prosecution. The government used the defendants’ compelled statements to guide its charging decisions, to formulate its theory of the case, to develop investigatory leads and, ultimately, to obtain the indictment in this case. The government’s key witnesses immersed themselves in the defendants’ compelled statements, and the evidence adduced at the Kastigar hearing plainly demonstrated that these compelled statements shaped portions of the witnesses’ testimony to the indicting grand jury.2 The explanations offered by the prosecutors and investigators in an attempt to justify their actions and persuade the court that they did not use the defendants’ compelled testimony were all too often contradictory, unbelievable and lacking in credibility.
