I think I may be suffering an identity crisis. I am an atheist, I support the death penalty, I support Obama, but not as much as I once did, I am pro choice though I think abortion is despicable, I am in favor of Socialism ( and yes I know the definition so another post with the definition is unnecessary). I don't like my government, both Repug and Democrat, I feel jails are not harsh enough, I believe pot should be legal, but hard drugs should not, I think the consequence of your choices in life should not be my problem to clean up, health care is very important and should be available to everyone, but if you smoke three packs a day and get cancer you should not have the right to sue a tobacco company for it, NAFTA was stupid, Gays do have a right to marriage, welfare and food stamps should be available for help but not a way of life, hot coffee in your lap does not entitle you to be a millionaire, workmans comp fraud doesn't make you a "retiree". Indians deserve much respect, and finally volunteering for military service doesn't automatically make you a hero you volunteered. CAN I HAVE MY LABEL PLEASE!

Well, you are my identical twin, but I don't know if that helps much with a label. I can quite honestly say I agree with you 100%.

I'm with the OP on just about everything. I call myself a Fiscal Conservative / Social Progressive. That's the shortest label I can accept.

I'm sure there will be plenty to offer you a label, in fact labels are cheap and abundant.

I would ask why on earth would you want one? Why would someone choose to constrain themselves in a box or to obedience of a group sharing the same label? All those things you listed, why not just apply them to each individual issue or topic and act accordingly to your own sentiments.

In America as an individual you can choose between hundreds of models of cars, thousands of styles of clothing, millions of different various of food, endless seas of doctors, lawyers, car mechanics, shopping stores, brands of shoes, and yet try to confine oneself to just a smattering handful of political labels?

Isn't politics absolutist and binary enough already, I mean look around at these posts, nearly 90% of them come from one of two positions and thats it?

Why bother with a label? I don't like abortion, but I feel it's the right of the woman to decide, not the government.

LOL thanks ya'll I was using the term "Label" in a tongue and cheek manor because everyone seems to want to be a "liberal" or "conservative" and I am neither. I think if I had a party I would call it the " pissed off, tired of the crap, get over it party". instead of Repub or Dem let's do the right thing for a change of pace. If someday in the near future you hear a giant sucking sound from the east coast that will be the politicians finally removing their heads froms their asses and actually doing something to move America forward.

Sane libertarian liberal who doesn't know much about abortion (propagandized by the right) or the death penalty. (counterproductive)

Exactly why do we bother with labels. Sometimes people hate the label, more then the actual issue at hand.

I have to totally disagree with you on this point. Cigarettes are delivery devices for habit forming substances that the tobacco industry very deliberately used. Many people started smoking way before there were warning labels and TV ads to deter a person from smoking. If these people get sick or died, the tobacco company should absolutely be held accountable.
