Was browsing snopes.com and came across this article from 2004. California legislature Democrats wouldn't allow a former POW to speak for Independence day but they did take time out of their busy schedule to honor a newspaper reporter. The Governrnator invited the POW and only one Democratic party legislator attended the function. Judging by how they treated him, I'm surprised they didn't follow Berkeley's example and send letters to the military in the state of California telling them they were unwanted and unwelcomed intruders to their state.

It has been made plenty clear over the years that many people in places like San Fran, California despise the military.
Did you read all the way to the bottom of the page you linked? Right in the bottom 4-5 paragraphs it explains exactly why they didn't want him to speak and it didn't have anything to do with the military.
Did you read the whole article, or just the parts that lets you keep your panties twisted?
The Democratic Leadership enacted a bipartisan resolution to honor Independence Day -- something that hadn't been done in many years. When Republicans asked for the rules to be waived and to have a brief and small ceremony, Democrats agreed.
"However, the organizer of the ceremony added several unauthorized elements to the ceremony, including color guards, musical numbers, more guests than could be accommodated in the Assembly chambers, and a lengthy speech by a very controversial individual, Jeremiah Denton.

Mr. Denton is way too partisan and controversial to be an appropriate speaker at a patriotic event that all members of the Assembly wanted to observe.

So the Republicans decided to turn a bipartisan event into a rabid partisan event. As far as I'm concerned, it's a damn good thing they didn't get away with it.
and just a thought here; regardless of what was or wasn't printed, even Snopes isn't always right...

It you know for a fact that something posted on their site is incorrect, email them with the proof and they will rewrite the article. But you need facts.
