If you've been on a college campus in the past 20 years you could not have missed a Saturday night showing of the movie Reefer Madness just for yucks. It is a cult classic because of the outrageous claims made in the movie about marijuana. I predict that in 20 years' time Gore's scare fest will receive the same treatment: college kids eating popcorn as they yuck it up over his overblown claims about global warming. In the final analysis ridicule is the best response to baseless propaganda.

I'm glad I opened up this thread and read your statement. I Have been noticing it here for a while and sometimes those with no response are a little lame.
My friend, you have just written the best prediction I have ever seen in this forum. If there was ever a Forum Prize for best and most imaginative statement you made it. Sorry I didn't make the correlation myself.
You have made the perfect global warming analogy. Maybe they will tile it "Glacier Maddness" and have a bunch of polar bears on water skis being pulled by a pontoon boat overloaded with Reggae musicians. "Hay Mon, roll anathur ice cube Mon"

If Obama, Gore and company were so dead wrong on global warming, it makes you wonder if they can be trusted on any issue. Their identifying slogan: " At least we're not any worse governing than neo conservatives were, or not much worse, anyway."
I'm looking at a 30% increase in electric costs next year, electric that comes from coal fired generating stations. If cap and trade costs make its cost skyrocket like they want it to on top of that increase already, I will personally lead an effort to have them remove all light bulbs from state and federal office buildings to conserve power. If they want to govern and legislate in the dark, they'll do it literally.

My prediction is that even if they have to paddle down to the local theater, conservataives will do exactly what you are predicting. They are impervious to fact, and the only weapon they have is cheesy PR stunts.

a little info on 'reefer'

In the 1930s, innovations in farm machinery would have caused an industrial revolution when applied to hemp. This single resource could have created millions of new jobs generating thousands of quality products. Hemp, if not made illegal, would have brought America out of the Great Depression.

William Randolph Hearst (Citizen Kane) and the Hearst Paper Manufacturing Division of Kimberly Clark owned vast acreage of timberlands. The Hearst Company supplied most paper products. Patty Hearst's grandfather, a destroyer of nature for his own personal profit, stood to lose billions because of hemp.

In 1937, Dupont patented the processes to make plastics from oil and coal. Dupont's Annual Report urged stockholders to invest in its new petrochemical division. Synthetics such as plastics, cellophane, celluloid, methanol, nylon, rayon, Dacron, etc., could now be made from oil. Natural hemp industrialization would have ruined over 80% of Dupont's business.

Andrew Mellon became Secretary of the Treasury and Dupont's primary investor. He appointed his future nephew-in-law, Harry J. Anslinger, to head the Federal Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.

Secret meetings were held by these financial tycoons. Hemp was declared dangerous and a threat to their billion dollar enterprises. For their dynasties to remain intact, hemp had to go. These men took an obscure Mexican slang word: 'marihuana' and pushed it into the consciousness of America.

MEDIA MANIPULATION

Where did the word 'marijuana' come from? In the mid 1930s, the M-word was created to tarnish the good image and phenomenal history of the hemp plant

A media blitz of 'yellow journalism' raged in the late 1920s and 1930s. Hearst's newspapers ran stories emphasizing the horrors of marihuana. The menace of marihuana made headlines. Readers learned that it was responsible for everything from car accidents to loose morality.

Films like 'Reefer Madness' (1936), 'Marihuana: Assassin of Youth' (1935) and 'Marihuana: The Devil's Weed' (1936) were propaganda designed by these industrialists to create an enemy. Their purpose was to gain public support so that anti-marihuana laws could be passed.

Reefer Madness did not end with the usual 'the end.' The film concluded with these words plastered on the screen: TELL YOUR CHILDREN.

In the 1930s, people were very naive; even to the point of ignorance. The masses were like sheep waiting to be led by the few in power. They did not challenge authority. If the news was in print or on the radio, they believed it had to be true. They told their children and their children grew up to be the parents of the baby-boomers.

On April 14, 1937, the Prohibitive Marihuana Tax Law or the bill that outlawed hemp was directly brought to the House Ways and Means Committee. This committee is the only one that can introduce a bill to the House floor without it being debated by other committees. The Chairman of the Ways and Means, Robert Doughton, was a Dupont supporter. He insured that the bill would pass Congress.

In September of 1937, hemp became illegal. The most useful crop known became a drug and our planet has been suffering ever since.

…HEMP.. IS ILLEGAL BECAUSE BILLIONAIRES WANT TO REMAIN BILLIONAIRES!

now look at all Gore's movie.....see how he is looking to make money off of....carbon credits......

makes you go hmmmmmm

That is an interesting read. It has been touted as the best oil for paint and would have prevented a lot of toxic environment for children as well.
We shall see. O.K. by me if they legalize it and if it would take plastic use out of business and put paper backin why not. Since it is heavy in fiber and oil I wonder if they have considered hemp for fuel? Noneltheless one must ponder along the lines of the global warming fanatics and wonder, "If everbody fired one up there might be a global melt down"!!!

Evidence would prove the bulbs within those buildings to already be quite dim.
