You think somehow that's exclusive to England? I'm betting it happens with one of your neighbors.

I'm not sure what the various studies show on this spanking issue--probably various conclusions.

What I am sure of is the higher up the economic ladder the parents are, the more permissive they appear to be. My little --- can do no wrong.
I notice the misbehavior in restaurants, retail stores and supermarkets. I once requested another seat in a fairly good restaurant to allow my wife and I to dine without the screaming piercing voice of an adjacent kid whom the parent did not control.

My understanding is that schoolteachers who demand discipline in the classroom are often chastised by parents. A co-worker told me he was threatened with legal action by a person when he spanked his child in public, for what he considered a good reason.

Today we probably have the least disciplined society on the planet. Many kids grow up knowing little of hard times of any nature, from crib to the higher echelons--when the depression is mentioned they think it refers to a mental condition. Kids without discipline at home, school and then no military draft leads to the adults of today--our corporate world and leaders also. We are familiar--are we not?

Spank or no spank, without discipline we are lost. Let parents judge to the best of their ability and in the mean time don't allow your kids to be a nuisance to others--their yours.

Maybe you think you are a better person but nobody should be beat by anyone [esp a parent]. I will never spank my kids once I get married. My father was mean to me & my brothers & ended up getting in trouble with the court. Parents never have the right to hurt their children.

Parents DO HAVE THE RIGHT to spank their children if it becomes necessary

The California legislature has been working on a bill that will outlaw any corporal punishment. Who hits their own kids? It makes kids hate their parents.

It will not happen.

There is a little document that intercedes - it is called the Constitution.

Heck - there are even schools who still "paddle" little Johnnie - with little Johnnies parents permission of course.

Spanking is not "beating".

You will find anything to condone hitting kids. Something is wrong with people who find excuses to hurt their own children & they may lose them like my father lost us.
