Why Didn't He Just Blow Himself Up In The Toilet? - The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan

If the intent of al Qaeda in this latest instance was to bring down an airplane, then it failed. But if its intent was to create fear and overreaction, then it succeeded ... there was no way they could actually get a bomb through that would actually work. The detonation equipment needed would have been detected.
Again, think about it. If you wanted to blow up a plane, would you attempt it from your seat, where somebody could quite possibly stop you? No, you would go to the washroom where you could set off the bomb without disruption.

It'll be fascinating to hear his explanation, if the discussion ever reaches that point. It's possible that he didn't do it in the lavatory because he really wanted to be stopped. He also spent 20 minutes in the lavatory. Might he have been pondering what he was about to do and having second thoughts?

I think he's not to bright, was a useful idiot, & is singing like a canary - no need for waterboarding - he's already giving valuable intel.

- He's known as the underpants terrorist. Maybe he was in the john saying goodbye to his boys.

I heard on the radio that he has a lawyer and is not talking.
There's also a deal on the table and he's still not talking.

Did he change his mind and is now talking ?

Just a guess, but, maybe b/c he was afraid the smoke detector in the restroom would alert people? Didn't they install smoke detectors in the restrooms b/c they banned smoking?

As I recall the reports his ticketed seat was over the main fuel tanks. The likelyhood of destruction was greater at his seat than in the toilet closet.
