Chances are, leaving the slopes would have done nothing to bolster the NCTC response. However, the symbolism is what matters most. We in America have come to expect the leadership to be proactive, not reactive. And if not proactive, reactive within seconds. Staying on the ski slopes, the golf course, wherever, paints the picture that the situation did not rank high in priority, and that's what pisses people off.
