I tend to think "Not".

Seems to me the guy got a bum deal.
Yeah, I know the jury followed the letter of the law, but was that the "spirit" of the law? Not in my opinion.

The guy was upfront about it and wasn't hiding anything - and it seems he'd become a law-abiding citizen. Also, what of his wife? Should she have had to give up her rights?

So what do you folks think?
Justice?
Or not?

Absolutely...

The man violated a law, and ignorance of the law is no excuse.

To compound this, the man was then offered a plea bargain to avoid a jail sentence, he refused.

Jails are full of dumb criminals, this man will be one of them..

Well, I'll grant you this - clearly refusing the plea bargain was a BAD move.

I'm not certain that it is even a violation of the letter of the law, the case seems to hinge on how the courts will view his possession. It could be interesting upon appeal.

Also in question is whether or not his wife's right to own the guns was violated.

I believe the outcome is unfortunate, because he was reporting a crime when he himself got busted. But the three determinations that the jury had to make were pretty cut and dried.
