"I think he's trying to ruffle the chickens -- trying to plant in their little minds that they're going to be taxed to pay for public broadcasting."
Huh? You have picked the right name, dilusional. Lots of our tax money go to public broadcasting.
"$400,000,000 for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting
This general fund includes $34,600,000 for “digital transition,” $26,600,000 for “radio interconnection” and $25,400,000 for Ready to Learn, a Department of Education program aimed at improving reading skills in the 2-8 demographic. This year, the CPB gave between $500,000 and $999,999 to NPR, as one of its biggest donors. And the CPB shows no signs of slowing down by proposing a budget of $542,000,000 for FY 2010."
I don't know about TV, but they are proposing a tax on radios. I heard Cathy Hughes of Radio One mention it today. They are asking people to sign a petition in opposition.
Isn’t it bad enough that we must now pay for air at gas stations?
will i be forced to buy a tv or will the gov give me one so they can tax me? so they can subsidise said tax cause i make below the poverty level these days
Saw a bumper sticker today: Government's broken; I want my money back!
Oh man..love it.
That's going on my favorite's list of bumper stickers:
"Don't blame me, I didn't vote for him"
"Government's broken; I want my money back"
I could make a killing doing a bit of ebay with bumper stickers like that.
They are perpetual..you'd never need to peel them off because they will always apply to some elected official or some government program.

No, I'm not.
The U.S. is one of the few developed countries that does not have a "television license" (or TV tax). In countries that have it, their closest equivalents of PBS affiliates and NPR stations do not run "telethons" or fundraising drives, because they are already adequately funded as a result of the license revenue. A $100 annual license on 100 million TV homes could bring public broadcasters $10 billion annually. Surely greater than $542 million.
