Good for France. Verbal abuse is NOT okay.

This is a 'Proposed law'!

Since this is just a proposed law, it is no big deal. Crazy laws like this get enough signatures to be proposed all the time, not just in France, but in all corners of the world, including America. I was reading just a little while ago that Holland (the Netherlands) was 'proposing' a law to make all languages except dutch illegal in public places. Did it get far??? NO! It died the second it went to a vote. This 'proposed' law will most likely meet the same fate. Hardly anyone is going to vote for politicians who, in turn, are going to vote for the government looking into their house.

Doesn't anyone read the links anymore?

Sorry folks, this isn't just the "whoa is me, I'm a battered female syndrome", it applies to men as well. Although, let's be honest....it's ridiculous & in most likelihood will never become fruitful. It's just some proposed legislation that will never even come close to passing. How many things like that are coming to the table from our own reps all the time here? Lots.
I wouldn't dismiss it so casually.

Well, I agree....I agree w/the "abuse" part of it. There's a difference between having fights w/your spouse & then definite outrageous, uncontrollable, rude, mean-spirited knock-downs. We pretty much have the same thing here...it's called getting a disorderly conduct municipal ticket. Or, if it's bad enough, a misdemeanor.

Well does it mean that people would get municipal citations for it? Or be arrested for disorderly conduct & it would be considered a misdemeanor? I said that in my former post. If that is what it comes to, than it's no different than our country.

I don't think the law goes anywhere near far enough.

I think they should criminalise making mean or scary faces at your wife.

Or complaining about them having to many shoes.

What similiar laws do we have?
And for me the penalty is beside the point, it's the level of intrusion these laws allow for.
Too much power in the wrong hands.
