Surely if this break is true, the Taliban can reach out to the administration and demonstrate concretely, that what you say is true, perhaps by pointing out the location of sheik bin Laden, and his subordinates. What say you?
The current government is becoming unpopular by each year, its just getting worse, AQ are getting protected by the Pakistani Taliban, but Pakistan could take control of that if the U.S. does not pressure them.

Stop believing the lies your government tells you, because they dont really care about their soldiers, all they care about is themselves, i feel bad for the soldiers because they're forced to go to a pointless war to fight a group of fighters that have no intentions to harm the west, WAKE UP for godsakes.

An american soldier got 10 years in jail for deserting the army, he knew that this war was pointless and he did not want to risk his life, and he got 10 years in prison, do you honestly think the western leaders care about their soldiers? NO, because if you express your opinion about the war, no matter what you do you will be forced to stay.

Al-Qaeda is the real threat, the Taliban was not the main focus for the west, our main focus is Al-Qaeda, yesterday 3 men got arrested in heathrow for making threats to bomb a plane, Al-Qaeda is benifiting from this, wake up, dont cry when a terrorist attack similar to 9/11 happens because by then the damage would be done, so people need to focus on Al-Qaeda, not the Taliban, the taliban have no intention to harm the west, they have never been a threat.

This war is pointless, whenever you make progress in 1 place, you lose in the other.
This post should be voided ASAP!
The military is trained for war is their job. Without the military we would not live in a free country!
Please take time to thank all US military members for serving our country proudly!

While you're looking for an issue, find out how many objected to WWII, Korean War and Vietnam.

Have you read in this string how the U.S. military is ALL VOLUNTARY. It's true, it really, really is. Do you know what "voluntary" means? That's 150 soldiers that need to be court martialed for "missing movement". I'd wager your last statement is untrue. I've read stories of Canadian courts sending Americans back and since Canada also has fighting troops in Afghanistan . . .

Now that would be an absurdity - letting soldiers dictate missions.

We have an ALL volunteer force, the military recruits thousands every year. I imagine those new recruits KNOW where they are headed.

OP: I had asked you way back on post 10 of this thread - give us examples of the "freedoms" enjoyed by the muslim armies in middle east or pakistan, or anywhere for that matter. Maybe, we can learn something about "freedom" in the army from these open minded countries. Please include links from media one can rely on, and not from a blog or a rag.

No there's obviously no freedom, but in poor countries like Yemen, the army is poorly trained and weak, a lot of people don't fear it that much anyways, because the army can't dare to expand their influence outside the cities.

Seriously mrhman92, Did you actually have it pictured in your mind that the generals lined up all the soldiers and asked them to vote on what battles they want to fight? "All in favor of Bunker Hill, raise your hand" "All in favor of the battle of New Orleans, say aye." "All willing to participate in D day take one step forward" What you don't get is that the soldiers sacrifice much of their freedom so that we can have ours.
