[They throw up these softballs and anybody with half a brain and a public education can knock it out of the park.....lol]
True, Singapore does have more free market policies, but the devaluation was still done by their government. No rational economist would suggest devaluation of one's currency would somehow make them better off in the long run. Inflation isn't a pretty thing.
Are there problems with socialism, sure. Is Obama more socialist than say, Sarah Palin, sure. Is Hugo Chavez Obama's hero, hardly.
No one is stopping your free speech, no one has censored your text and no one has said you can't make fun or be critical of Obama, it happens on nearly every thread in this forum. However this isn't the courthouse steps and you agreed to follow certain rules in order to be a member here, one of those is that we start threads in a descriptive manner that isn't intended to start a flame war.
"Chavez orders currency devaluation by 50%" is a perfectly fine but when you title the thread as you did the obvious responses aren't going to be talking about the devaluation of Venezuelan currency but yet another one of the 234958274027469287460298729048724 Obama is the anti-Christ threads. I have some experience in this area and have seen it more times than most folks here have posted.
Please save the low rent canard of my thinking Obama is the Messiah, as I didn't vote for him and I'm critical of many of his policies and have so posted here. This inane and irrational assumption that my pointing out a thread which has every intention of yet another simplistic flame post means I think Obama is the Messiah is mind numbingly illogical.
Thanks for the smartest post in this thread! I went to this thread expecting to see a link to a mainstream media source pointing to a close relationship between President Obama and Chavez. I saw nothing. I then went back to the thread and its the same formulaic "OMG Obama is a socialist kenyan muslim hater of his family" dribble that was frankly amusing at first but after a while, you really want to see someone posting a thread with some intelligence attached!
If this thread is intended to troll and if the OP is in violation of TOS, shouldn't the thread be closed and the OP provided an infraction regardless of their political slant (left, right, centre, anarchic..)

I don't know what's more pathetic the foaming at the mouth hate and fear mongers and corporate, capitalist propagandists or the suckers who believe them. We're experiencing a spectacular failure of CAPITALISM not socialism. Instead of bitching & whining about socialism you should be demanding prosecutions of the corporate capitalist & military crooks that robbed you & me blind and pushed this country down the slippery slope of bankruptcy. Without the TRILLION dollars funneled into the pockets of Cheney's well connected military contractors and the deregulation orgy begun by Reagan and aided & abetted by Clinton & Phil & Wendy Gramm the derivative Ponzi schemes that caused the implosion of our and the world economy would not have been possible. We would have had a mild recession then back to business as usual like during the S&L crisis in the 80s. The problem isn't socialism or capitalism it's prioritizing unbridled greed & military insanity over the social good. If Obama was a socialist he'd have Geithner & Summers locked up instead of doing their bidding as representatives of the Wall St. capitalist elite.
I agree geos. What people see as socialism is really an emergency bailout and propping up of capitalism to try to save it. But there's only so much money to go around..even the funny money printed up by the Fed. Sooner or later the system is going to give. I say that because it's not getting better. 5 million people on emergency unemployment benefits and here's GS and JPM handing out billions in bonuses earned from government bailout dollars that they used in place of the cash they lost. Yes, our government is trying to save capitalism but it will be at a cost, a great cost that will be felt for years to come. The consumer base will shift from the US to the Asian countries and we will be left to stagnate.

And I agree with you. Fair and balanced capitalism can work. And socialism IS sometimes necessary to balance out the excesses of capitalism but I prefer socialism for the PEOPLE not the corporations the way we have it now. Imagine if all those TRILLIONS of OUR money were given back to US instead of being stolen by the bankster robber barrons? That would be a REAL stimulus. At this point however I think it's too late. I hope I'm wrong and American ingenuity will triumph once again but I'm afraid we're too far down the economic sewer and the billionaire banksters have succeeded in lining their pockets with our tax dollars and selling out America to the highest bidder. May they get the justice they so richly deserve just like Sadam.

The banksters wouldn't have so much taxpayer dollars if they weren't guaranteed a government bailout. The whole point of having a free market is so those that screw up are eliminated and those that do good are rewarded. Socialism IS the problem.
And now Chavez sends fighter jets to intercept American planes.
Is this man a nut or what?
Now he thinks he can push America's military around.
I did read about that. Have to wonder though did the US fly in their zone ?
He said they did but the US said they didn't.
Can't tell who is the good guy anymore.
