According to obama, that $2.3 Billion for 17,000 "green jobs" comes to approx $135,000 PER JOB.

Now, I'd say that's a bit steep and far beyond what the return investment would be.

Obama's Green Jobs Program: $135,294 Per Job

Quote:
The White House announced Friday the awarding of $2.3 billion in tax credits — the money comes from last year’s stimulus bill — to companies to create “green jobs.”

The announcement was rather obviously timed to counter the news that the nation lost 85,000 jobs last month and the unemployment rate stayed at 10% — bad news for an administration that once promised to hold unemployment to 8% by the end of 2009.
Take Michigan as an example. The incompetent Governor, democrat Granholm is touting the creation (a "few" years down the road) of a few thousands green jobs - but compare that to the hundreds of thousands of traditional jobs that have been lost on her watch.

Wind Watch: Green jobs: enough to counter mass layoffs? (http://www.wind-watch.org/news/2009/02/04/green-jobs-enough-to-counter-mass-layoffs/ - broken link)

Quote:
Gov. Granholm specifically cited a half-dozen new factories in Michigan bringing some of those fabled green jobs. Together, though, they will only provide about 1,620 permanent jobs.
Peanuts, especially when you consider the "investment".

Have to look like you are doing something to look like you are making jobs for those who lost all their honest blue collar jobs. Only way he knows how, spend spend spend.

Green Jobs; Are they worth the investment (taxpayer dollars)?
Only if you equate the sound of a flushing toilet with music to your ears.

He isn't creating much of any jobs... the "jobs" buzzword was only to get stupid people to support his legislation... what he is REALLY doing is paying the "green" companies expenses.. thus a company would normally spend X amount of money to buy steel, the government would instead buy the steel for the company and the company can sell the steel for profit... why? Because if we just gave X amount of money to a company for free, people would be pissed... How would you like it if I gave millions of taxpayer money to ATT so that they get more "profit"... What pissed me off is that instead of making "green" energy better, he is just giving companies free money... instead of investing it so that solar technology gets better efficiency, we give them money so they can make more profit with nothing to give back in return... but Obama isn't known for being smart... easily fooled, yes... smart, no...

And when the government doesn't pay them $2.3 billion the following years?

Wouldn't have to worry about that if the democrats would stop blocking domestic oil production...they've been obstructing for 30 years.

Granholm can hardly be held accountable for the massive jobs loss in Michigan and that "few thousands green jobs" is projected to be 40,000 in green jobs by 2020 once the infrastructure is fully in place with many of those jobs coming right away. That might seem like a lot to you but Michigan is hurting and Gramholm's effort do diversify the state is greatly appreciated by many of us who have friends and family out of work. Are the green jobs going to replace all those lost in the auto industry? No, but it's a great start. Her efforts to bring in green technology jobs to Michigan are nothing to sneeze at. We have little factories tooling up around the state, getting ready to manufacture for the green technology industry. And our junior colleges are starting offer training classes to meet the near future demand in green jobs. She's also been courting defense-related firms, robotics and life sciences along with green jobs to diversify.

Think about this - 40,000 news green jobs by 2020.....in ten years...ONLY 40,000 jobs. Compared to the hundreds of thousands that have been lost....it seems ridiculously inconsequential.

Why can't she be held accountable? She's the governor...she is ultimately accountable and answerable to the economy of the state she runs.
