I disagree padcrasher. The two parties are corrupt to the bone and run by corporate/banking interests. This current administration showed me that the Dems are just as bad as the Repubs.

Both are corrupt but not to the same degree. If you examined meaningful votes and newspapers of record you would know this. Just one small example. Every concession to the health care industry in this latest health bill was done in order to get so called "Conservatives" ( in reality corporate shills) to vote for the deal.

The agreed not to put pricing pressure on drug companies. They agreed to tax union health plans rather than households making above $350K. They took out the public option that would have put pricing pressure in the market. I fully admit Obama and Blue Dog Dems ( who right wingers praise) participated in the process.

But most Dems were willing to take on the lobbyists.

You really make things worse when you don't give them credit for this.

We aren't even near that level.

No we just kill thousands of innocent people in the name or corporate interests, poison our own people so drug companies can thrive etc. We just make it look more civil. Perhaps thats worse because we know better.

On one hand, the right wingers will not listen to reason when it comes to poltical issues that effect them. That's frustrating.

But on the other hand, they don't listen to reason when I've told them time and time again 3rd Party voting is counterproductive and actually helps the Party they most disagree with.

Again one more time: ( I know it will go in one ear and out the other)

This is not a Parliamentary system. This is a single district, winner take all election system. You learn this in Political Science 101.

3rd Party runs in the USA are doomed to failure.

The ONLY way to do it is to pick one of the two Party's that you most agree with and work to improve that Party by challenging bad apples in primary elections.

Wanna bet someone like bloomberg has a shot in 2012. If enough people are disenfranchised it will happen. Remember mr big ears??

why does it have to be 3 parties? why not 4 or 5? that way the vote becomes more evenly split. 3rd party is just splitting the vote at this point, but what if you added two major viable parties to the mix?
The "founding fathers" would be rolling over in their grave if they knew we only had two viable parties.

Basically, you're a sellout and your vote is wasted if you vote for anyone other than your favorite candidate. That is why hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people disagree with your insane idea. Also, do you have statistical proof in the form of a published academic paper that backs up what you're saying, or is it just some whimsical thought you dreamt up?

So basically, on Nov 4th, you're not really voting. You're instead playing an elaborate version of prisoner's dilemma.

Its very clear that almost all americans want the illegal immigration STOPED and those here illegal identified . We have demanded this since 9/11 yet so far NOTHING of any real effect has been done. This shows there is an agenda NOT to do as the american people want but what the 2% who control 98% of our countries wealth want..We need a peoples party controled by the people.

If you think corporate America already has too much political influence, you ain't seen nothing yet if the Supreme Court makes a certain ruling.

The princple is known as Duverger's Law

RangeVoting.org - Duverger's law, two-party domination w/references to academic works at the bottom.

So it's not anything I dreamt up it's actually something you are ignorant of.

The Libertarian and Constitution Parties COMBINED recieved less votes than Ralph Nadar in the last election

COMBINED all these kooky parties account for only 1.4% of the Presidential vote.

That's pathetic.
