I'm still trying to figure out why this event would be blocked. I think most Chinese are homophobic, but most also don't care about something like a gay event. What's really going on?
China is a very repressive place. It's not a religious country, but still, homosexuality is very much frowned upon. It was still classified as a mental illness in China until 2001.

It's China. Free speech laws don't exist. The government there can shut down whatever it wants, just like when the Moscow police violently shut down a gay price rally in that city last year.

Not sure what's going on here because there are plenty of gay clubs, parades, etc. in major metro areas in China.
I suspect that the shut down had to do with a mixture of corruption (where's my money), homophobia (this is just too Western), and administrators not following the rules.
I'd wreckon it had something to do with some sort of Haitian pact with the Devil himself....true story.
