I am not a S&W apologist. I hate fraud and corruption at any level as much as anyone.

But, those people who have been outside the US, especially to Africa and the 3rd world will know. Bribery is Standard Operating Procedure at virtually every level. From something as simple as getting good directions to foreign weapons purchases or intelligence. Things get done when greenbacks are involved.

A whole different set of rules or standards apply.

The investigation has been under way for 2 1/2 years and is continuing, Breuer said. He declined to say whether any companies may be charged. There are more than 140 open investigations into violations of bribery laws, Breuer said.
For those who want to spin this in order to attack the Obama administration, please explain to me how they were able to get the Bush administration to go along for 1 1/2 years.

If Africans (or anyone else) are not willing to abide by American business practices and the rule of law regarding fraud and bribery, then they cannot do business with us.

Every time you're asked for a link in support of your allegations, you deflect or call names.

Please provide links to your assertions when you are asked.
You present opinions as facts and refuse to provide any backup.
It's a credibility issue.

perfectly stated. If an American company is going to be able to compete with foreign firms the should be playing by the same rules.

Few facts are out. A Smith & Wesson sales VP may have been desperate enough to do such a thing to increase their severly lagging sales and virtual absence in the US military small arms contracts. S&W has hurt themselves before and in the recent past may be the ones responsible for sinking the opportunity of our soliders to change to .45ACP from 9mm NATO side arms a few years back.

Interesting to note that the major small arms manufacturers and contractors to the US military do not appear to be involved (Berretta, Colt, Sig, GLOCK, etc....)
Beretta, Sig and Glock are not American companies (though some do have US affliates). US laws wouldn't apply to them, so we don't know if they were doing the same thing or not.

The law is antiquated, and does nothing but hurt American companies. It doesn't address corruption on the other end. This is one place where it would be nice to see trade laws equal the playing field. If overseas companies use these practices they should be banned from selling in the US.

Too bad, life's unfair. If you incorporate in America, you must follow the rule of law here.
