Jan. 19 (Bloomberg) -- A Smith & Wesson Holding Corp. sales executive and a former U.S. Secret Service officer were among 22 officials at companies that supply law enforcement and the military who were charged with violating U.S. anti-bribery laws.
Amaro Goncalves, vice president of sales at Smith & Wesson, and R. Patrick Caldwell, chief executive officer of Protective Products Of America Inc. and a former deputy director of the Secret Service, were among those accused of engaging in schemes to bribe foreign officials, Assistant U.S. Attorney General Lanny Breuer said today in a statement.
The defendants allegedly agreed to pay a 20 percent “commission” to a sales agent who they believed represented the African official, to win part of a $15 million deal to outfit the country’s presidential guard, the government said. The “sales agent” was an undercover FBI agent, prosecutors said.
Another Jimmy Carter left over law. . . . If I grasp the effect, an American company providing Americans with good jobs could lose those jobs to another country who is able to offer incentives for their product. Sigh. Only the gov't can bribe other gov't officials.
I LOVE guns. Have AKs, an AR, FAL, handguns up the butt. I despise what S&W did and I'm very glad I don't own any of their models. Very unAmerican and I hope they pay dearly.
