They've never been anyone's "friend" to begin with. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Not from a military or sovereignty point of view. Perhaps a little bit from an economic standpoint, but, we really have to blame ourselves for buying all the junk they make.

I would say the answer is "kinda".

Our governments are not currently unfavorable towards each other, but frequently have opposing world interests. Furthermore, I read a article about Chinese hackers, and they regularly hack US sites as a form of nationalism and are idoled by the general population. So my guess is their state media doesn't shine favorable light on us, so we may not currently be at ends, but we definitely aren't the very good friends.

No.
Competitor, yes.
Adversary, maybe.
Enemy, no.

We've chosen to dance with the devil which is the Communist regime. I have for as long as I can remember, done my best to not support their economy by not purchasing goods made in China. It is very difficult to find such products anymore.

Are they our friend? No. Are they are enemy? Likely.

Fact is, right now they are our banker and we should be doing everything possible to reduce our financial indebtedness to them to lessen their control over our economy. Right now I would say that we have a somewhat mutually beneficial parasitic relationship with China. However, all that can change whenever China presents our debt as immediately payable in full. I don't think as long as US consumers help employ so many in China that they will do it; however, every nation has its tipping point and we are there.

Realistically, one day China will have desperate need of the natural resources the US has in order to maintain its huge and ever-growing population. If the US allows itself to become weak enough it would make sense for China to attempt to take us over and keep Russia on favorable terms in its backyard.

One of my most respected professors in college told us in 1952 that we should be getting ready to go in with the Soviet Union because the time would come when the newly formed Peoples Republic of China would someday throw in with Africa and the rest of the non-whites trying to get what we had that they wanted. Maybe we need to get more friendly with Russia and the rest of Europe because the big battle of race is coming.

China can't afford to "break" us since they have allowed us to get so deep into them. If they break us they lose their best customer and all the money we owe them. Maybe old Bill wasn't so stupid after all.

I voted yes because I have considered China an enemy since Mao tse-tung drove Chiang Kai-shek out of China.
