I think this case more of an aberation than a norm. I am sure they will fix it.
I would agree. The owners of this "private company" did not respect the 1st amendment of our country's constitution when they deceitfully engraved their proselytism as the serial number.

What? LOL. It is a private company. They can sell whatever they want to, to whomever they want. If they want to produce and sell statues of Jesus, they can. Do I expect the military to buy them? No.
Why do you put "private company" in quotation marks?

A private company can sell whatever they like to the general public but on a military contract they have to follow the law. And they clearly broke the law.

Yes, this is the core of this issue. Yet another religious organization breaks a law in order to promote their religion. One is left with the impression that their religion approves of lawlessness!

Nobody forced the military to buy the sights. There are no broken laws. Your anger is misplaced, be mad at the military for buying the sights. What law exactly are they breaking?

The contract! Anytime the military or government does business with a private sector company there is a contract.
Did you read the article in the original post? The military is looking into it because they think laws may have been broken related to proselytizing of any religion. This aint a crusade. Assuming you are not a hindu, would you like it if somone gave you a weapon with a hindu saying on it?
