Not so much as close, rather the idiots will move here and think that the same stupid encroaching policies will work as well. Some of the mid cities in North Texas are already experiencing the same problems some of those liberal states are. Plano is one of them and it reminds me of California. High real estate prices, a city that doesn't know how to balance its budget or spend its money well and its only solution to anything is to raise costs.

Thankfully, in Texas the cities are left to their own hands and not babysat by the state. This way, the idiots who band together can do all the damage they like and not affect the rest of the state. Though they as well as others are sure trying their best to mold it into one big state issue. This way, stupid can go on living stupid at the expense of others.

So far though, Texans seem to be a bit more intelligent than to fall for that trick. It only takes time though, stupid is infectious, and there is a LOT of stupid moving in from out of state.

I would imagine relocating would cost more than $140, not to mention all the talent a company would lose when half the employees opt not to move with it.
It's not the amount, it's what it represents. How can a business be sure that this will be it? Who's to say it's not just the first step to squeezing the top earners for money to be given to other people. What about when that money doesn't materialize? Get more from these folks? Drop the income level?

It's not the tax that will make them leave, but the anti-business environment.

Please keep an open mind, and realize that some of us are moving because of the stupidity of the state we're leaving. We don't WANT that.

My mother always said that if the end of the world came she wanted to be in Texas...cuz everything gets here 50 years late.

Same thing with the recession.
Texas is a sprawling cesspoool...that attracts the poorest members of society. It's already facing budgetary problems and all that smack talking against California is starting to ring a bit hollow as people realize we are in the same boat...it just took longer to get here.

Alright, more business moving to my state to escape an oppressive tax policy! We already have a significant number of businesses that have been transplanted from CA, hope to see some from OR next.

Thanks for the suggestion, though I don't think Phil Knight and Nike will be moving to Texas..He might relocate to Washington however. And the Portland Trailblazers will have to stay as well unless the team is moved.

Seriously though, high wage workers? In Oregon? Very few people make $125,000 in this state(salaries are higher for jobs in Seattle and San Francisco than in Portland)--and many of the few big corporations left years ago. The Oregon economy has sucked for quite a long time...

I say NO to taxes - all taxes. Shutter the schools, tear up the roads, disband the military, burn down Washington. America needs a flat tax of 0%. Let the market run everything.

There are plenty of people in the U.S. that are at the poverty level right now and work their asses off at dangerous and back-breaking jobs. Jobs that you and most Americans wouldn't even think of working. Yet those are the only opportunities that those people have. Just because they didn't have rich parents to pay for them to go to college, or aren't heirs to a banking fortune doesn't mean that they are trashy and lazy people. Not everyone has fortunate life circumstances or has had a stroke of luck in their lives.

And the only reason these "fat, lazy, working at walmart" people eat Cheetos is because they can't afford fresh vegetables because...the GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIZES CORN AMONGST OTHER THINGS. But oh no, that isn't a "socialist" concept. Only helping people is. Let's just let the rich get even richer because they worked soooo hard (just like David Rockefeller, the Rothchilds, etc who had all of their **** handed to them on a silver platter) and let the poor get even poorer while experiencing untold suffering because they are all lazy welfare collectors trying to score some crack.

Don't you see how backwards this concept is? Maybe if things really do get worse and we do go into a depression, some of you people will finally wake up to the reality of the situation.
People in this country have unlimited opportunities that they fail to take advantage of.

My family was not rich nor was I left with an inheritance. I grew up in a 2 bedroom shotgun house and learned to tell time by the sound of the mill whistle and passing freight trains. We had one B&W TV when I was about 9, and I didn't have AC until I was 23. I did, however, have a father who refused to get me a job in the mill where he worked for over 50 years and insisted that I go to college which I had to pay for myself by working almost full time. I now have two Masters' degrees and am a recognized subject matter expert in my field after a long career of working hard and applying myself make a comfortable salary. My wife arrived in this country at age 22 in 1996 on a student exchange program with $23 in her pocket. We married after having met and dating during her one-year stay. She now has a Masters' in Engineering and makes six figures. Together we have a nice home, and two SUVs in the garage, our daughter attends a private preschool and is bilngual (and no, Spanish is not her second language). My sympathy for those being born poor and perpetuating that poverty by being lazy and not taking advantage of all this country offers is severely limited. And I resent any tax or program that takes a nickel from my family to give to those who did not work to earn it. I am entitled to what I have in that I worked hard for it and do not take it for granted nor do I feel anyone owes me anything.

And as was quoted elsewhere on CD, "Luck is word losers use to describe why winners win. It sort of saves them from looking in the mirror and seeing the real reason that they didn't achieve what they set out to do."

If you feel like being generous, do so with your own money, not mine.

Because it worked out for you means that it has to work out for everyone?

You are seeing the situation in black and white.

For example: You say that you came from an unwealthy family and worked full-time to get through college, which is great. How about someone who has to support their siblings because their father is dead and their mother is seriously ill? Maybe that person doesn't have extra money to set aside for school, instead it goes to making sure his brother and sister don't go hungry.

This is just one example. There are shades of gray here.
