saying 'no!' to any compromise and shunning the ability to act like

They seem to take pride in this juvenile behavior, like it takes strength to just

I would expect this at a PTA meeting or some local yokel co-op but
at this level???

....we need to work together and the GOP has been unwilling to budge.

House passes recovery package with zero Republican votes.
Think Progress » House passes recovery package with zero Republican votes.

The same recovery package that saved us from ruin
and is now starting to improve the economy.
Center of the road. You must befar left to believe that.

Creatinga a false crisis is extreme. Obama has tried to make health care a crisis that does not exist. In fact the democrat proposals do not address health care at all. It is all about insurance companies and trying to do away with them.

As long as the dems only propose lefist legislation, the repubs will try to stop it.

Its good that the Republicans can now filibuster the Democrats. Now party should have too much power. A majority faction was something the founding fathers wanted to prevent. I don't support Democrat or Republican super-majorities in all 3 branches of government. It allowed Bush to destroy America, and a democratic majority could do the same for Obama. Hopefully 2010 will see some more moderate republicans who are socially liberal but economic conservative gain seats in both the house and the senate, but more likely republican nutjobs will win.

Only now, after the democrats have lost the tyranny of their 60 vote super majority, do they call for openness and bipartisanship.

Leadership comes from the top, and 0bama has allowed a closed door policy that keeps republicans out of any discussions on legislation. John Boehner is the republican leader of the House of Representatives, and he has submitted multiple requests to discuss policy and legislation with 0bama, but nether 0bama nor anyone from his administration have bothered to schedule a meeting nor spoken to him in a year.

So, now that the Republicans have a filibuster proof majority, does anyone actually expect them to contribute?

What a load of absolute horsecrap from brubaker and his leftwing sycophants. You must be college students because nothing you say could be further from the truth.

If we conservatives and independents don't like what your leftwing ideologues are trying to do to this country we will OPPOSE you every way we can. Many of us feel the republicans are doing their best to save us from the fools that would turn this country into a socialist state on the European or communist model. We DESPISE the likes of you and you will see further reductions of the dems come November.

Dear Brubaker, the Republicans do not have a "filibuster proof majority"

In the House of Representatives, the Republicans are the minority. So long at the Majority party (Democrat Party) refuses to allow access to the table, Republicans have no voice regardless of their own desire.

In the Senate the Republicans hold 41 seats. The Democrats hold 57 seats with 2 Independents who caucus with the Democrats.

Thus again, the Republicans are the minority party. They do have the ability to filibuster. Thus they can stop legislation from proceeding.

However, it needs to be pointed out here that blocking legislation does not prove the Republicans have offered no options for legislation.

It can mean (but not always) that the minority party's offerings have been rejected by the majority.

The question isn’t weather or not Republicans will offer contributions as the evidence clearly shows they have.

The question is weather or not Democrats will accept compromise with Republicans.

And Civics is a great class. You should take it some time.

Democratic leaders were able to prevail on the politically volatile 60-39 vote only because Republican Sen.-elect Scott Brown of Massachusetts has yet to be seated. Republicans had insisted on a 60-vote, super-majority threshhold to pass the measure. An earlier test vote succeeded on a 60-40 vote."

When did the Republicans take back congress? Did I miss something (like some secret election cycle)?
