A seperate society has never survived.

We are either one on the same page, or divided and will fall.

Quite true. I'm tired of many of these immigrants who simply want to use the US as an ATM machine!

So basically free speech should only apply to certain people?

This will probably be over your head but if you immigrate to a country(you choose that coutry to make your life) and BENEFIT from that country, you know things like a job, food, clothing, housing, education, you should give that country your loyalties and respect instead of being an ungrateful user leech.

I guess that is the differance between a liberal and a conservative. Things like respect and honor go right over their heads.

In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin.

Why do you say only immigrants should leave? After all, you should be treating an immigrant who comes here in good faith and assimilates as an exact equal.

Yet if a native son disagrees they shouldn't leave?

Do you agree with the entire message or not? Who should leave?

Not exactly a good time for "real Americans"
Instead of evaluating the argument on it's merits you redirected with a classic straw man approach. Bravo!

If a United States citizen immigrates to any foreign country he/she will be expected to pledge loyalty, learn the language, and to conduct themselves in accordance with it's laws and customs. Why should it be any different here in the U.S. and why should the expectation that immigrants properly assimilate draw even a hint of an accusation of racism?

What does any of this discussion have to do with freedom of speech?

Of course immigrants should learn the language of the land - whether that land is the US, France, Jordan or Mexico. I don't know why that idea is so abhorrent to some people.

I think it is only right to acknowledge that learning a new language takes time, and for some people (specifically the elderly) the ability to become bilingual will never happen. And that is OK. It is not about speaking English without an accent. It is about trying.
