I'm the same way but fortunately no one has made fun of me yet. I also try to use proper grammar when typing an email because you never know who will wind up reading it down the road. Right now, I'm taking a class and have to force myself to write in shorthand because I am a slow note taker! LOL! (sorry OP but could not resist )

As far as the internet lingo like "lol" etc. I don't like it, but the more i participate in online discussions, the more I find myself using it. I too, am one of those people who types out text messages with proper grammar and spelling, my friends wonder why I always call rather than text back, it's cause my thumbs hate all that pushing.
