Because when i listen to her talk ...I'll be honest, I find her to be very unintelligent. Now I hear people that defend her say she's smart but every time she talks it sounds canned and she still does not sound intellectual enough that I would consider her a good political leader. Do alot of Alaskans talk like her ...is that regional?

An articulate speaker does not make one intelligent, just as an inarticulate speaker doesn't make one unintelligent.

I was waiting for a thread like this to pop up; it only reinforces how many people who were sold purely on Barack Obama's oratorical skills. It's a sad day in America when the sheep admit their folly without even realizing what they're admitting.

There was a time in the state of Alaska where the former governor spoke with some finesse.

To the OP--the lady is playing to a specific audience. She can't run the risk of sounding too "intelligent"; she'd risk alienating the "anti-elitist" base.

Bacially I think she like many speakers taylor their speech to there audiences. I've notice obama doing the same thing to different audiences. I ahve know some pretty good speakers who were not very intelligent personaly and some very poor speakers who were every intelligent. As I always say results count and all the rest is a con. Witnesss the Rise fo John Edwards and what so mnay now say about his being on eof teh least infrmed politicans they ever meet including his wife.

I always thought her cartoonish folksiness was rather affected.

It is. I recall seeing her on television when she was sportcasting for the Anchorage news station when she was fresh out of college. The folksy crap simple wasn't there. Neither was it there in her speeches as gov, mayor, etc. It didn't materialize until she became the VP pick.
