Do any of you still want the kind of "system" where your insurer can raise rates at any moment?
yep and medical COSTS are going up

even udner a single payer system which would have 'less' administrative costs. the FACT is medical CARE costs money, and like everything else is always going up

even under a 'government' system prices and costs WILL go up..and the only thing a 'government' can do is RAISE RATES (taxes) or LOWER coverage....period

Single payer takes runs 30% more efficiently than private insurance. Plus the profit is taken out. Not to mention providers will need to become more efficient. I guarantee you care costs did not go up 40% in one year.

My daughter that I referenced makes $10/hr. A $300 pair of glasses is almost a week's wages, probably is a full week's wages after taxes. Ditto the annual physical she just had. She just graduated from college. She has no savings yet.
$300 pair of glasses???

yet pearl vision, sterling optical, wiseeyes, Sears optical, etc all advertise $100 for 2 pair, including the exam

It simply amazes me that there are some who are defending a 40% increase in one year.

Apparently, Republicans don't care what the numbers are as long as no one tries to fix the problem...

I am not defending a 40% increase

what I am saying is the health CARE is self is getting more and more costly...and the INSURANCE companies have to pass the actual costs to someone...same as a government system would

its just like in construction or manufacturing...if a cost of a PART goes up then the cost of the end product will end up going up

There you go. Mrs. NBP pays about $400 for her glasses at Pearl (I think) because of the prescription. That number is with our insurance also paying another portion of $700.

I have to buy some glasses this month and I'm not looking forward to it.
I've had the same prescription for about 3 years despite the prevailing advice that you get an exam every year if you currently wear glasses or contacts.

I have an astigmatism in one eye so...eh. I'm not looking forward to shelling out this $$ but I know I need new glasses.

I am not sure what your complaint is
