KERMIT, Tex. — It occurred to Anne Mitchell as she was writing the letter that she might lose her job, which is why she chose not to sign it. But it was beyond her conception that she would be indicted and threatened with 10 years in prison for doing what she knew a nurse must: inform state regulators that a doctor at her rural hospital was practicing bad medicine.
***
When the medical board notified Dr. Arafiles of the anonymous complaint, he protested to his friend, the Winkler County sheriff, that he was being harassed. The sheriff, an admiring patient who credits the doctor with saving him after a heart attack, obtained a search warrant to seize the two nurses’ work computers and found the letter.

I hope she has decent lawyer who will kick some butt. The county should have to pay 100% of her attorney fees and court costs. I hope the Texas Board of Medicine will thoroughly investigate the physician.

Boy i agree with you, think you said the magic word, The Texas Board of Medicine should thoroughly invesigate this physician, but seems they are tight for obvious reasons. The Dr. save the sherrif's life after a heart attack, i can understand the loyality, but still is no reason, not to investigate the physician, further.

I certainly wouldn't feel safe at that hospital if the nurses are found guilty.

I can't believe that the hospital administration is happy about this being made so public --- they have just admitted that they knew the dr was crappy but realize that he is the best they can get.

Get ready for the malpractice suits with that admission!

Actually the Texas Board of Medicine has a history these last few years of sanctioning physicians without a complete investigation. It will be interesting to follow this case.
