Woo, another liberal who doesnt understand that hospitals are for EMERGENCIES, and doctors are for COLDS.

No rationing involved, its a matter of going to see the proper doctor..

Do you take your son to a gynecologists when they get a scrape on the knee? Go to a dentist when you have trouble seeing? Do you call the fire department when your house gets burglarized, or do you drive through Burger King and try to order the Big Mac?

Maybe you guys NEED national healthcare, if you cant manage to find the right doctor to go to in the event you get sick.

Our healthcare is definitely rationed! Maybe not for the top 10% wage earners, but for the average Joe, it is. I've been to the emergency room ONCE in my life, and that was because I was afraid a stomach virus was going to kill me in the middle of the night. Little issues here and there... I don't go to the doctor because I fear the trail of bills that will surely follow. A couple years ago I went for a simple skin cancer check (wasn't skin cancer) but you'd think having a doctor spend 2 minutes looking at your skin wouldn't be that much. But the total bill was over $2000!!!! I had to pay around $200 to spend less than 5 minutes with a doctor! So yes, our healthcare is rationed. My personal health plan is to work out regularly, do my cardio, eat right, and pray that I never need a doctor! And I HAVE health insurance!

Why can't America just do it the simple way...
- get out of healthcare in every way (no Medicaid or anything).
- remove all restrictions on the health insurance industry.
Make sure that every American is informed of the motto:
No money, no healthcare, not even ER.

Quit marginalizing medicine.
Is that all you think doctors treat - scraped knees and colds
In or out of the ER.

OK, a couple of clarifications:

If you live in some private enclave somewhere. It's not that common for most of us.

We already pay premiums for school, its called school taxes, or tuition for private schools
Anyone who thinks their school taxes totally cover the cost of their kid(s)' education needs to go back to school themselves. If you send your kids to private school, you are making a choice.

Boo hoo hoo.. Ignore the fact that the average american already pays for fire protection.. There is a reason why most locations have gone to a VOLUNTEER fire department..
Many VOLUNTEER fire depts also are tax supported. The volunteer part refers to the labor only. Taxes pay for everything else. That is how my fire department works.
Most of this post is a personal attack on the poster, calling him names.

It doesn't sound like these kids had colds if the total bill was $20K.

LOL! Yeah, that would work. Sometimes I seriously wonder what the healthcare insurance companies think they're doing. Do they really only plan for the next quarterly profits release? At the rate they're going, they'll put themselves out of business the majority of Americans can no longer afford what they offer.

No, they had fevers over 103 in the middle of the night. We don't mess around with something like that.

Um.. what does that have to do with anything I posted. The facts are there is a different job function of a family doctor vs an emergency room. Thats a fact..

If you go to the emergency room for something that you should have gone to your family doctor for.. Dont complain about the bill
