Will they have any real power to enact positive change in our fiscal spending policies under this admin? Or is this just smoke and mirrors meant to make Obama look like he's actually concerned about the mounting federal debt.

I notice that there will be 7 Democrats, 7 Republicans and then 4 Obama appointees on this commission. Obviously, it will be weighted to the left.

No it will be just like the presidental commisio that was forwemr to look at social securityheaded by Breaux(D) ;no power. That is why the congressinal commisssion wqas goign to be drwn up requiring everyhting to be on the table with a up or down vote on it finding. Obama himself has shown in his budget with the propoased freezes that even he is really interested in cutting cost.

The commission is Obama's way of avoiding taking direct responsibility for what he really wants to do and that is raise taxes. If he raises taxes, he breaks a promise. However, if an "independent" commission says he must raise taxes, he can raise taxes on all of us, point to the commission (which, of course is bipartisan,) and say he had no choice. He didn't want to do it, but had no choice, you see.

Even slicker than slick Willy.

Obama is still voting "present", I see.
