"ABC News reports that the General Accountability Office (GAO) will declare today that the Energy Department has fallen woefully behind -- about 98.5% behind -- the 593,000 homes it initially predicted would be weatherized in the Recovery Act's very first, very chilly year. The Energy Department is run by Steven Chu, like President Obama a Nobel Prize winner. You'll never guess what the federal government blames for the lack of significant progress. RED tape."

Here's the news story:

Obama's federal government can weatherize your home for only $57,362 each | Top of the Ticket | Los Angeles Times

Here's another story on the same subject in a publication for government executives:

http://www.govexec.com/dailyfed/0210/021910rb1.htm

And here are the actual GAO highlights from their report:

http://www.gao.gov/highlights/d10383high.pdf

How far would they fall behind on your healthcare treatment decisions because of red tape?

57 grand to weatherize a home? LOLs.

Most people can weatherize their own homes for a hundred bucks or so.

True..but for the government to do it takes 587 people and 450 forms.

The bigger the elephant, the slower it moves. Soon it is consumed with it's own weight and refuses to move anymore.

Obama and his advisors are grossly incompetent. This puppet and his puppetmeisters are making the United States a third world country with their excessive spending.

$100? What will you buy for $100? Does anyone know what properly weatherizing a home takes? I'm not saying that it should cost $57,000/home, but at the least, it will cost one-tenth of the $57,000 (somewhere around $5000). The majority of the costs so far have been tied-up in getting the workers trained, cutting through the red tape, and the money it takes to buy the equipment and materials that are used when weatherizing homes.

We would be so very happy to take the $57,000 and weatherize our home for less and put the rest in the bank. It would help this economy far more to just cut everyone a check.

LOLs.

Reading the article it said they had to decide if the homes were historic before they could anything. At least that's what I think it said.

I'm surprised they don't base what homes get done first because of the ethnic and sexual make-up of the household. LOLs.

All one really has to do is throw some towels under the door, put that palstic stuff up over the windows and turn the heat doen a degree or two. Maybe build a fire if you have a fireplace. Or use a kerosene heater. May not be perfect but it works.

People have been weatherizing their homes for thousands of years cheaply. Now it costs $57,000. LOLs. That's a lot of kablinky.

And so what if not everyone weatherizes their home? It's their home. Not the governments. Why in the hell should the govt spend one cent on a private citizens residence? There isn't one good reason. It's just the government trying to seize control over people's property.
