Socialism Viewed Positively by 36% of Americans

Quote:
PRINCETON, NJ -- More than one-third of Americans (36%) have a positive image of "socialism," while 58% have a negative image. Views differ by party and ideology, with a majority of Democrats and liberals saying they have a positive view of socialism, compared to a minority of Republicans and conservatives.
No wonder democrats don't have a problem with bank take overs, health care take overs, auto take overs, government expansion at the expense of the private sector, pay czars, etc, etc, etc.

This country is getting to a point where socialism may be the only answer as the bottom classes grow larger and larger.

The fatal flaw in the cited poll is that the option of capitalism with stong oversight and regulation, NOT SOCIALISM, is not an option.
Such a system works and works much better than pure capatilism, for many countries. No one in their right mind would suggest that either pure socialism nor pure capatilism is a reasonable solution for a democratic country!

How do you explain that the bank and auto "takeovers," as you call them, started under a Republican president?

P.S. That particular poll seems more likely to be measuring the feeling about "buzz words" than about actual workable solutions to societal ills!

Well it is obvious some "so-called conservatives" are also lovers of Socialisim, since they expect the government to provide jobs for the people, fix all the ills of our society even it they are in reality private sector issues, and whine to high heaven about socialism while at the same time using socialist programs such as SS and Medicare to its fullest. Hypocracy at its best or worst depending on ones POV.

The government of the United States is set up to make socialism inefficient and expensive, just the way the founding fathers intended it to be. The legislative process is drawn out and long, and is meant to keep too many new laws from going into effect. Of course, the dittoheads in Washington don't seem to get it through their thick skull.

The Swedish don't allow immigrants in to their country (aka they're racist in the eyes of liberals) and they have a self-sufficient culture that prevents them from leeching off "the system". America was specifically structured by the founding fathers to not be similar to countries like Sweden.

Yes, those are all permanent, arent they?

Harry Truman noted this about the Republicans in 1952. Some things never change....
The real Republican campaign is not going to be fought on the issues. The Republicans are going to wage a campaign of phony propaganda. They are going to try what we might call the "white is black" and the "black is white" strategy....

The Republicans are all set to try this "white is black" technique. And this is the way it will work. First of all, they will try to make people believe that everything the Government has done for the country is socialism. They will go to the people and say: "Did you see that social security check you received the other day—you thought that was good for you, didn't you? That's just too bad! That's nothing in the world but socialism. Did you see that new flood control dam the Government is building over there for the protection of your property? Sorry—that's awful socialism! That new hospital that they are building is socialism. Price supports, more socialism for the farmers! Minimum wage laws? Socialism for labor! Socialism is bad for you, my friend. Everybody knows that. And here you are, with your new car, and your home, and better opportunities for the kids, and a television set—you are just surrounded by socialism!"

Now the Republicans say, "That's a terrible thing, my friend, and the only way out of this sinkhole of socialism is to vote for the Republican ticket."
