Obama endorsement by George Will?: The Swamp

This is the type of business our government should be backing with as much money as we have. Get one in everyhouse, and quit sending any money for energy needs outside of the United States.

We spend over 700 billion a year on foreign oil, and that money doesn't come back to us. Think if we could reinvest all of that in our own country.

This thing is awesome.

Your link doesn't match your post. The link is to an old opinion piece by George Will from 2008. It says nothing about a "bloom box," whatever that is.

It looks promising, especially if they can get the per unit price down to the 3K range like they're hoping to.

Just watched a piece on the Bloom box on 60 minutes, you can google it. Looks pretty promising. Hope it pans out, Colin Powell is on the Board.

It looks really good. If nothing else it will light a fire under the large power corps. to come up with their own fuel cells. It sure would be nice to power the country with natural gas rather than oil. Natural gas we have lots of here in America.

I saw that piece too. Very interesting! Needs a fuel alternative tho, in my opinion. When it can run off the methane from a garbage heap, or something, it'd be worth it but natural gas? Bio fuel?

I mean, let's face it, 60, 70 years ago, nobody imagined gas or heating oil at anywhere near the prices now. So, what's to power the bloom boxes 50 years from now?

Aside from that how is the bloom box going to reduce dependence on foreign oil? Gonna make a small one to go into cars?

We have some of the best sources of natural gas in the world. It could supply our energy needs for another 200 years, by most estimates, and thats the least end.

Also, with demand comes supply. So if we are all using a unit like this, then the demand will be growing for an alternative fuel.

I'm sure those guesstimates are based on how NG is used now, heating/cooling, not to power a whole house or office building or electrical stations to charge electric cars.

In the 60 Min piece they said it takes one day to build one box. Production would have to be racked up considerably and guess what that would mean? The Government would need to buy a few thousand to get it rolling . . . MORE government spending.

Like it or believe it or not some government spending is essential to some markets. Example, LCD TVs. The government (DOD) bought thousands of them at full price (no discounts) and now we enjoy a pretty decent price and the technology that would not be as advanced as it is.
