My reason was the Democrats nominating an avowed socialist, George McGovern, for President. I vowed to never vote for another one that summer day in 1972 and have held true, so far. I had to hold my nose, literally, last time around but I did it and am very glad now that I did.

Other-
When I was younger (late teens early twenties) I was a Democrat. Then I had a rude awakening with higher tax levels, and unions, so switched to Republican. Then I found I couldn't stand the social conservative nature of the party, or the corporations making money to the detriment of the environment, so am now an Independent. Really, neither of them fits. I wish we'd get rid of the parties altogether.

I was Independent when I first registered, but switched to Democrat in 2008 so I'd be able to vote in the primary.

I used to be a Democrat, now I'm a Republican. And I also switched from a Moderate to a Conservative.

I did the same thing for the same reasons but not in time for the 2008 primaries. Now I find out that I COULD have voted in the primaries! However, I am too lazy to change my registration and I'll always be an Independent at heart anyway. I have never voted for the "party" but for the person and will continue to do so.

Former libertarian turned independent.

I realized that we need the government to run some things - but I respect and agree with the libertarian party's views on civil rights.

In other words, I'm still a libertarian (liberal) on the social spectrum, but I'm a moderate on the fiscal spectrum (libertarians are conservative here).

Former Republican, now Independent.

There's a few Republican politicians (and C-D posters) that I do like, but most are nothing but stupid corporate schills.

From a Democrat to pretty much a Libertarian. Why, because who in their right mind would want to be in the same party as Obama, Pelosi and Reid.

Not enough selections but Democrat to Republican to Independent. The first switch was due totally to LBJ. The second switch was for job security since I worked in a Federal agency in D.C.
