Why do people assume everyone wants to get on SS and Medicare when they become eligible?
KAAC, just plan your retirement as if social security did not even exist, then when you can claim it, it is just extra money in your pocket.

Something to consider from a geezer. DH paid into SS for 60 years. They took the most that could because of his earning. Older seniors are advised to get around 70% of their savings out of stocks and into something more secure. Seniors who have their one years worth of living expenses( or more) in CD's or bonds, etc. are not earning enough money off of $100000 to buy a good hamburger once a month. My MIL bought her cars out of CD interest. That low interest dictated by the Fed that you are paying on your house and car is coming out of the pockets of seniors who don't want to risks everything they have in the stock market.
It evens out. You pay my ss, I subsidize your mortgage.
