I had always read that for-profit health insurance was a bad idea. After witnessing the way Blue Cross Of California has treated its members over the years, now I understand why.

I don't know what rock you've been hiding under during the Health Care Insurance reform discussions but there are certainly a lot of informed people out there who have made the same amazing observation...

YOU must work in the insurance industry.

Flood insurance is separate from home owners insurance. There's also a separate coverage for damage from hurricanes. If they only purchased home owner's insurance then they were not covered. Next case.

Kind of like a cafeteria health insurance plan?

You don't think health insurance companies have an incentive to deny coverage or refuse to pay claims?

It's sad people don't realize this.

Guys, you realize that if we don't maintain a fundamentally "for profit" healthcare system, then the alternative you're talking about is...the "evil" state-run "Socialism" healthcare system, right?

just making sure you've pieced those things together....

Many people who had flood insurance were told their policy didn't cover "wind damage." The insurance companies claimed the damage to many people's homes was due to wind....

I hope you aren't brainwashed enough to believe that.....

It's possible to have a not-for-profit health care system that isn't run by the government.

There can be government regulations to ensure certain things but not every non-profit health care system is ran by the government.

Many single-payer systems are paid for with public funds and the health care is delivered privately.

Reform the industry by regulation. Examine the costs and get rid of the high markups, use generics, etc. There should be no "subsidy" to get folks by; there should be reasonable costs to start with in line with salaries and actual medical costs.

This whole healthcare "reform" is so bogus it isn't even funny.

Actually, the reason we are in the sad state is because too many people don't want to realize....or admit.....that it is true.
