Another is the fact that the Jewish lobby is among the most powerful in DC. Campaign contributions are another issue.
We have grown up with this idea that somehow we MUST protect Israel from the very evil Muslims. We are hammered with the idea that it is all one sided and that Israel is a peace loving benevolent nation.
What school books don't teach is how Israel came to be. That many of Israels greatest hero's got their start blowing up buildings before Israel became a nation. Then we are taught that the land given to Israel was really theirs all along.
