You Have No Say About Your Military | Mother Jones

Quote:
Since 2001, when an F-35 Joint Strike Fighter was expected to cost an already hefty $50 million, the plane's cost has soared into the stratosphere (despite the fact that the aircraft itself has barely left the ground). The estimated cost today is $113 million per plane. Yes, that's per plane. This supposed future workhorse of the US military is now priced like the planet's most precious gem. It's also 2 years behind schedule. Keep in mind that the Marines, the Air Force, and the Navy are planning to buy a combined 2,450 of them for what's now an eye-popping $323 billion.
(Emphasis mine)

I hope to see the Tea Party crow talking about this deficit spending!!

It doesn't apply. Military spending doesn't count because it keeps us safe from loosely organized terrorist groups with outdated weapons. Our occupancy in the Middle East is god's will, remember?

we spend hundreds of billions of dollars on education and read most of the posts in this forum... yeah, that's money well spent.

BTW, I completely agree that the money spent on aircraft is obscene. However, I have also worked in the industry and the government bureaucracy they have to go through for EVERYTHING is a huge part of the problem. Just think of how health care will be with that efficient process.

You can't say it doesn't count because someone has to pay the bill.

The cost of socialized medicine is not only financial. The cost is much greater. It is a loss of Constitutinal liberty in which the federal government deems itself as the grantor of "rights".

Our rights are endowed by our Creator (whether you believe in one or not). Rights are NOT granted by government.

Today's technology advances at such a high rate this does not surprise me coupled with the fact of the insurmountable red tape of doing "anything" in the government.

We can't afford these idiotic wars; nor can we afford the government passing laws that all citizens must buy insurance from a for-profit company, with no provisions to rein in health care costs.

You forgot about all those tankers. They will cost even more and the Air Force asked for less than half of them. But good luck getting the TEA nutcases to complain about that. If they do, let me know. I wanna see it too.
