When Beck and this congressman declare the Super Bowl and other sporting events played on Sunday as affronts to God, particularly given all of the gambling that goes along with them, I might take them seriously.
Until then, neither of them has a toe to stand on.
Excellent point! I cannot imagine how many backroom business deals go down on Sundays as well. In fact, I'm sure many "vices" besides gambling occur on Sundays.
Glenn Beck continued his eliminationist attacks on progressives yesterday with a novel and absurd comparison:
Beck: History will equate this as, as big as the New Deal or Pearl Harbor. And if you think that's overstating the importance, remember we are talking about one-sixth of the U.S. economy.
As he was talking, the screen behind him showed the bombs falling on ships at Pearl Harbor and smoke billowing up in their aftermath.
Of course, Beck has also compared HCR to the 9/11 attacks.

If Beck is on the air on Sunday, I won't be surprised if he starts yelling "Armageddon!" as the vote count begins.
"Glenn Beck and Republican Congressman say voting for health care bill on a Sunday is "an affront to God"
I wonder if any uninsured American that dies on a Sunday for lack of being able to pay for treatment is an affront to god? Probably not.
Thanks for more info about the christian god...he gives out diseases and will be angry if the afflicted can afford to get treatment without going bankrupt. Some god!
Just another good reason to be an atheist.
I do believe in God. It's just that MY God is a kind, loving God - unlike Beck's God - who hates everybody that doesn't fall in line with how Beck thinks they ought to be. The far right made God in THEIR image - full of hate and judgement. Jesus would not stand a chance with these people - they hate too much.
Isn't there a parable in the Bible about a rich man enjoying life in his nice big hour while the poor man starves outside with the dog licking his sores?
isn't there another parable about the sheep and the goats and "those who clothed and fed and cared for the least of my brothers did it for me," or something like that?
With regards to the poll question. I'll answer not sure, because, while it may not be keeping holy the sabbath day, what if the bill helps provide affordable care to people who could not otherwise get it. Service of others and all. I think God would rather the least/weakest of the people are taken care of, rather than ignored to see if they can make it on their own as to avoid stealing from the rich, (who are arguably stealing anyways, because their share of resources continues to increase).
Neither I, nor Glen Beck, nor Jerry Falwell, or Jim Wallis, nor anyone else in this world can predict God's judgement of us. I can say that I'm pretty sure the current system of neglecting those who have little, is causing greater harm to more human life than increasing taxes on the rich a small amount to pay for care of the poor would cause.
I think God would forgive someone for working in a soup kitchen on a Sunday, wouldn't you? If the work is truly in service of others, I would like to think there'd be forgiveness. Then again, I cannot predict God's mind, and neither can anyone else.
I'd vote no on this poll if I knew that the bill actually had substance. I have a feeling its gutted past the point of being useful. A public option would have gone a long way I think, or even just copying one of the Western European systems. Too bad.....
