What do you call state university hospitals, county hospitals, city-owned hospitals, etc. These institutions have been around for a century, longer in some places.

Umm they are dropping like flies. They are in such dire economic straights because of unsustainable reimbursement levels.

I call our county hospital profitable. I pay a large amount of property tax that funds this hospital and they turn uninsured US citizens away and tell them to go to urgent care while delivering babies from women who crossed the border so their child would be a US citizen.

In all fairness, our county hospital, John H. Stroger Hospital (formerly known as Cook County Hospital), has undergone mass layoffs and restructuring. It is in such a bad state of repair that our former county board president John Stroger (for whom the hospital was named after) refused to go there when he suffered a stroke a couple years ago. How pathetic is that? You name a hospital after yourself, then don't even patronize your flagship hospital? It's that bad.

Of course, this is Chicago too, so it's somewhat expected.

Private insurance is NOT going away.
If you have private insurance now you will have private insurance THEN.
The government has NOTHING to do with the rates that private insurance pays.
That will NOT change.

Ken
