How do you propose to eliminate political parties?
You and I know each other. We talk a lot and agree on a lot of things. A local elective office comes up and we talk about running. We agree that you'll run for the office and I'll help you get elected. We talk to a bunch of our friends and they all agree to help. You win, and while you're serving you realize there's another person on the board who shares your views, so when the two of you come up for reelection you decide to work together, and get all the friends who helped you and all the friends who helped her to work together to get you both elected.
The two of you start to form more alliances, and get more people who see things your way to work to help you get reelected, and to help get other people who think like you to get elected.
If you say you want to get rid of political parties, how do you stop this phenomenon from happening? How is it even a good thing to prevent people with shared political ideas from getting together to advance those ideas?
yes...no more religion and no more political parties....

If we eliminated organized religion and political parties (which are basically the same thing) there would be far less division and far more agreement in congress. People would actually support their beliefs instead of always feeling like they have to "do as the party does".
The two political parties that dominate the United States government at all levels are both anti-American. They do not represent the American people nor seek what is best to preserve democracy. Democrats are Communists and Republicans are Nazis.
So, how do we change this. What can be done to make the United States a more democratic country, where the voices of all are not only heard but direct the country? Or are we at the point in time when government cannot be democratic?
I would say more correctly they are Socialists and Facists.
Hence the reason I voted for Nader. Seems the green party and the Libertarians represent more the values of the country. but the perception is that if you change you won't win. It really takes people to step off the bus.... btw you have been riding in the back of it for decades so isn't it time to catch another ride?

I totally agree. It's time to put aside this senseless partisanship nonsense and get some serious third party, independent candidates elected that will actually SERVE this country and its citizens.
