I believe the protesters fear losing their social privileges and associated sense of being the “chosen people” more than any monetary consequences. There was a time when a white man with a good union job in the defense and/or automotive industry really had it made. Well those jobs have gone away thanks to the Republican’s these Teabaggers voted into office. Because of their antipathy to the equal opportunity concepts the white right wing destroyed themselves economically and the white plutocracy laughed all the way to the banks they were about to destroy with the speculation that just busted.

The Teabaggers have reason to be unhappy but they brought it on themselves. We progressives are trying to undo the damage and put in place policies that will prevent it from happening again.
I guess teabags and other such groups reflect the emerging awareness that the US is not the greatest country anymore.
Since you mentioned 'chosen people', I guess that does not only apply to whites, but to US-Americans in general. There was a time when they believed they were God's favorite country ('God bless America' comes to my mind, and I wonder why would he do that?). And now they have to watch how communist, atheist and other countries are surpassing them, that must hurt...

I know. I totally agree with you.

America is great because we can discuss issues. I mean however there are many many people on this forum who use it to spew their unbridled hatred.

I, you, my dog, may not like that, but that too is part of America. The same right afforded to calm and lively discussions is afforded to people who feel absoultute hatred and ignorance.

If we took away their freedoms, then who would stand and protect ours.

This is a concept totally lost on those people. Their rights exist because liberals and progressives maintained them. It completely upsets me and every American bone in my body, when I read that "liberalism is a cancer that needs to be taken out." for example.

At the end of the day, the things that make America great, are the things that protect us--our rights, our government and our freedom from tyranny. At the end of the day, people with real vision and ability are the ones who win.

The Tea Party and the Republicans do not have a vision or the abitlity to govern, they have made that abundantly clear over the past few months.

May God Save the United States!

I didnt see you leaving the country when any republican was in office, so why should the majority of the people leave the country now. how about a secession of some states, that would be the thing to do to make liberals scream bloody murder.

after all, without an expanded tax base to milk off of, your pet projects would go nowhere at all but down the toilet.

No it used to be the greatest country on Earth till the Democrats got hold of it. Now it's getting to be just another Euro-Socialist country that we have to take back either through votes or blood.

Agreed. Joey wants to "funadamentally change" the nation to a socialist republic, as does Barry.

As the Constitution and the democratic republic was here first, those enamored with socialism could, and probably should, move to the two socialist paradises close to them- Cuba or Venezuala.

One of my friends in med school (a lefty gay guy) was a hard core leftist in college. He was a Russian major at Oberlein and spent two years in the USSR. When he came back, he was an ultra-right winger and said that Reagan was right!

Perhaps a little time in a socialist paradise would cure the lefties of thier love of socialism. I think that they imagine some fanciful movie presentation of that system and probably need to experience it first hand. For those of us who already know better, I would prefer not to experience it first hand to know that system sucks.
