Obama counted his race as black on the census, not black and white. He has turned his back on the white half which raised him.
Give me a break. My DH's Mother was caucasian, his Father was a dark skinned man of mixed ancestry (indeterminate, Cape Verdean). My DH's birth certificate lists him as "colored".
I have one Grandparent that was dark skinned (indeterminate, Cape Verdean). There is no racial designation on my birth certificate though it does designate "L" (legitimate).
So, should we have marked the census form with black, black and white, other? We marked what we self identify as. It's noone elses business to choose for us.

You have to indicate what you are. If DH had a white mom and a 'dark skinned man of mixed ancestry' for a father, he should check off two races -- white and black. How he chooses to self-identify is very much his personal business.
We are being asked to accurately represent ourselves on the census. If someone is of mixed race -- as Obama is half black and half white (very cut and dry in his case) -- it should be reported to give a better accounting as to who makes up our nation. This has nothing to do with self-identifying.
There are many beautiful mixed race people in our communities and to give a better statistical view of our communities, we should be honest. I would love to see mixed race appear better represented than it actually is. Someone moving to a neighborhood might be better served seeing that it is 45% white, 25% black, 15% mixed race, 10% Asian.
It's only a matter of time before all races are mixed.
There are lots of black public intellectuals that are not extremist he could
associate with.
If a high ranking Republican openly associated with a self described facist the media would be talking about it 24/7 and the left and the right would be calling for that persons head.
He associates with Henry Louis Gates, Jr., who is quite the centrist. This is besides the point, since I associate with Republicans even though I disagree with them. You don't have to agree on every point with those who you are friends with.
Your second comment is a false equivalence between fascism and socialism, and to be precise, West is a Democratic Socialist, far less extreme than people want to believe when they see the word "socialist". Are you calling for the head of Bernie Sanders, too? Is he the equivalent of a fascist?
Anyone who is A) surprised that Cornel West said EXACTLY what was on his mind or B) thinks that West and Obama are 100% buddy-buddy and that West has been an unflinching supporter of Obama throughout his campaign doesn't know anything about Dr. Cornel West.
He's been both skeptical of this President AND outspoken about potential violence aimed at this President for some time.
(By the way, I caught part of this event, and Michael Eric Dyson went on a pretty compelling rant about the fact that Obama "isn't Moses. He's Pharaoh." referring to his position of power. So much for rants about a monolithic Black community...)

... and those of you barking like dogs about "black racism" because of concern over threats against the president need to take a long look in the mirror.
Jerks.
The Boston Globereports that a new internal Congressional Research Service report and government sources say there are an unprecedented number of death threats against President Obama -- and that the Secret Service is insufficiently funded and staffed to deal with them. According to The Globe, a report issued by the Congressional Research Service shows that the Secret Service is investigating more threats against government officials than ever before, and questions whether the 144-year old agency should continue probing financial crimes, as was its original mandate.
In total, the Secret Service regularly protects 32 people and arranges security for high-profile events. But the election of Barack Obama has increased threats against the president's life by 400 percent from his predecessor, according to "In the President's Secret Service," Ronald Kessler's account of presidential security. The Secret Service has looked into a number of race-based threats since Obama took office, and a Facebook poll that asked "Should Obama be killed?" President Obama also had a Secret Service detail 18 months before the election, the earliest of any Presidential candidate.

Black racists like Al Sharpton have been out of work lately and are desperate for another MLK-type assassination to happen so that they can march, sing spirituals, and act like dignified victims of the evil white establishment, and make tons of money off the cities and states, and make documentaries they'll sell to schools as liberal "educational material", etc.
Seen it all before. Next.
This is a despicable comment, not to mention stupid.
