"First, the proposed health care reform does not take over the system in any sense. Much to the chagrin of progressives, the bills under consideration don't contain a public option and don't provide for a single payer. In fact, they provide subsidies for millions of people to purchase private insurance.

"Second, such statements reveal how pathetically little many of our policymakers and pundits understand American health care spending. We're already halfway toward socialized medicine, but not because of Obamacare."

Multiply 10,000,000 (assuming a family of three) for the uninsured.

X $1,000 per month (cost of health insurance)

X 12 months (months in a year)

and we end up with

$120,000,000,000 per year (minimum)

multiply that X10 and we end up with that minimum number thrown around

$1.2 trillion over ten years.

Yup- that is what it costs. The fact that America has been saddled with this debt has been hidden by smoke and mirrors accounting and outright lies. However, nothing is free, and this is what this plan will cost AT THE MINIMUM!

You didn't take increases under consideration...the subsidies are tied to the CPI but if costs increase too much then the yelling will be loud and the subsidies will have to increase even more.
