Unfortunately, Americans are rarely taught the facts about their unique form of government - the republican form - which is NOT a democracy (majority rule).

In a system where government has two jobs : securing rights and governing those who consent - it matters little to the minority, whose rights are secure, no matter what.

But in a democratic socialist state, where government's power is used to TAKE from one to GIVE to another, suddenly it's crucial to be the GANG in power. Then one can use their political clout to rob the public treasury, and indirectly rob the people.

Of course, since America's national socialism is 100% voluntary, it can skirt the limitations of the U.S. Constitution. But I think you'll agree that being the victim of government is not what the founding Fathers had in mind, as stated in the Declaration of Independence.

Well, it certainly guarantees one person's vote is as powerful as another's.

Isn't it more like guaranteeing that one person's vote is as meaningless as another's? Technically, each state's electors are not bound by the popular vote. You can select any candidate you wish, and the electors can give your whole state to the opposition.

We can be trusted to choose all of our other officeholders by popular vote, but not the President. Doesn't that seem, how shall I put it, ridiculous?

The Electoral College is a group of individuals separate from congress and the senate (though the same in number, plus a few from D.C.) that cast the real votes for president.

When this nation was founded, the people's representation in the federal government was in the House of Representatives. The Senate was chosen by the states, and the states appointed electors to choose the president.

It would seem counter-intuitive to a democratic government, but makes perfect sense for a federal republic. Remember, federal has the same root as federation. Many people forget the reason the government here is called a "federal" government and not a "national" government.
