It's not just racism, really. Just look at the insane, bigoted and homophobe posters on this forum..hint, hint. Nothing really knew, but I thought I'd share it. Baylor University is Baptist btw.
In a related matter last year, polls showing Mitt Romney's Mormonism was most disliked among the most religious and it mattered least to atheists/agnostics.
This stuff is genetically hard wired. It goes hand in hand. The ability to believe B.S.

Hopefully, a first step in the process of improvement, i.e., asking that all important question "am I part of the problem."

I don't dislike Mormonism, but I'm critical of them not because of my own religion, but because some out-of-state Mormon groups have been suspect of influencing the outcome of CA's Prop 8 election.

WELL SAID
I will further say, it is likely to be fostered in the home as well. Families tend to leave a church they don't agree with. And with most of the small denomination churches, they literally can't afford to point out anything controversial, so they say nothing out of fear of losing members.
In truth, none of the widely accepted religions would willingly promote racism, but at the same time, they lack the ability to suffer the loss of members by trying to change it.
They simply look the other way.
I think they need to do some in-depth studies in our society as a whole on the issue of racism, I think if more people were willing to openly discuss there views and experiences without fear of being labeled, both sides of the race issue could be very enlightened.
