I am curious, how is it that Ben Roethlisberger didn't receive the same public scrutiny and disdain that Kobe Bryant did for his rape allegation case? And why didn't he receive the same public scorn Kobe did. Roethlisberger has won 2 Superbowls and plays for America's storied Steeler franchise. Like Tiger, "Big Ben" is also a hero to many Americans yet was treated far less harshly than Kobe. And to top it off, the Georgia DA is not filing charges against Roethlisberger despite him being charged for a SECOND time with rape. Both cases involve the same level of evidence excpet the DA in Roethlisberger's case decided not to file charges whereas the DA in Kobe's case chose to do so.
I have noticed there is a double standard with how Black and White athletes are treated with regard to their crimes. Clemens was treated more favorably than Bonds. Bonds is arguably the greatest hitter of all time. Clemens is arguably the greatest pitcher of all time. The evidence against Clemens is arguably stronger than that of Bonds since Clemens case involves a person who has stated that he personally injected Clemens with steroids. Both players are arrogant and rude to the media. Both players have a reputation for being selfish. Yet Clemens was never given the same treatment as Bonds from the media.
Another example is the case involving Bill Romanowski and Kermit Washington. Washington was suspended from the NBA in the 1970's for punching Rudy Tomjonovich during a game. Rudy was badly injured during the ordeal and required surgery. Romanowski took a teammates helmet off and punched him in the face fracturing his orbital bone and ending his career. Romanowski wasn't even suspended let alone expelled from the NFL.
When you see Tiger Woods being heavily criticized in the media for cheating on his spouse while Ben Roethlisberger is essentially given a pass for raping two women, you begin to realize this country has a long way to go before with regards to equality and race.
What about Pete Rose? He's white and he's banned from baseball for life? He played the game the way you are supposed to and he will never get in the HOF?
Rothlisberger is a meathead, Kobe is a punk, McGwire is a coward, Woods is a mental case.
One thing about Kobe's case was that he was married, Rothlisberger isn't. That plays a part. Also with Bryant it was a classic "he said, she said" situation where Rothlisberger was out in public with witnesses. Both situations have enough differences to make a straight line comparison difficult.
The guy I personally think got screwed was Michael Vick.
Kobe Bryant committed rape and got away with it b/c he hired a pricey 17th St. lawyer. The good thing about that was she the respect of some of her colleagues for taking the case, the biatch!

I think regardless of his success he just doesn't have quite the same name recognition. Does everything have to be a race issue?

Katiana, you were there, you know this, now you are saying you do not believe in our jury system...he was found innocent, end of story. As far as we all know he has been clean since then.
With jury selection under way, the criminal case was dropped late Wednesday by prosecutors who said the 20-year-old woman accusing Bryant of rape had decided not to participate. Her exit followed gaffes that led to the public disclosure of her name and other personal details, and prosecutors said they would not carry on without her testimony.
District Attorney Mark Hurlbert said he could have won the case, but he supported the woman’s decision to withdraw, with a stipulation that charges will never be refiled.
Victims’ rights groups said the way the case disintegrated could force states to take another look at rape-shield laws, which typically bar the sex life of an alleged assault victim from being admitted as evidence.

Different game and different cultures within the game. Fights between teamates are common in football. Romanowski FYI is admitted big time steroid user, so much so he has blamed mental issues on it.
If this happened now Romo would be on the outside looking in.
