6. Save a portion of everything you earn from your very first paycheck.
7. Invest a portion of every paycheck in a mutual fund. Don't know what a mutual fund is? Look it up. That's why there's Google.
8. Don't blow money on any of the following: cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, tattoos.
9. Learn to cook cheap meals for yourself that are made from REAL ingredients: beans, lentils, whole wheat pasta, brown rice, couscous, vegetables, fruits. Cooking real food doesn't have to be expensive. Keep meat consumption to a minimum.
10. Graduate from high school. Get decent paying employment. Then marry (if you so choose). Then have kids (if you so choose). In that order. Avoid divorce like the plague, especially if kids are involved.
You are awesome!!

Not so much.

But if we're limited to doing only one thing? Start with the number of mouths that need
to be fed, and housed and educated... and later to have well paying jobs waiting for.

The single biggest obstacle to any one low/no skilled person getting paid well enough to
support themselves is the competition they face from their own sibling, cousin or spouse.

Absent that competition he'll be paid more.
And when he is paid more... the next guy up the ladder will be paid more.
It's really not that complicated.

The issue is not the number of people, it is the monopolization of business by corporations which makes the family business obsolete.
Increasing population increases demand for goods and services in direct correlation, it is a wash.
One Wall Mart on the other hand, replaces a hundred mom and pop middle class businesses in exchange for a few hundred poverty level jobs...it is not that complicated.

Only if they have jobs that pay well.
But that still leaves the issue of space and stress on natural resources.

The issue today is that we really don't have many open slots into good jobs
or even not so good jobs. What needs to be done is getting done.

Singularity thinking aside... it is the single most common problem we have.

Is mostly just a side show.

Want to effect real change? Buy and use contraceptives.

Something to think about... A large corporation in my area that supplied a number of production jobs locally has just moved elsewhere.. Down to Texas to be exact.. The reason being they stated that they wanted to remain competitive and had no choice.

So WHY did this company move? Very clearly stated it was because their COSTS were too high.. Now what did this company find out about Texas that was better than here?

The bottom line is these people DID HAVE WORK and now the DON'T HAVE WORK.. I'm sure they even would have been willing to TAKE A PAY CUT to STILL HAVE A JOB.

... but now they are going to go on welfare to receive unemployment benefits for a while.. Productive employees at one time in manufacturing now sitting on the couch collecting entitlements.

The source of the issue financially ultimately comes down to the federal government playing around with the currency (ours is OVERVALUED.) We are not a rich country.. we are a poor country.. and we better make the adjustments or they are going to FORCE THEIR ADJUSTMENTS on us.. The standard of living must decrease. This is what happens when one gets TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN DEBT WITH NO ASSET-BASED CURRENCY. We MUST cut entitlements AND PROVIDE OPPORTUNIES FOR PEOPLE TO FIND WORK TO FILL THE FINANCIAL VOID OF NOT COLLECTING UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS... one without the other spells disaster.

The taxes need to be more favorable. The wages need to be at a level where the company feels that IT IS GOOD to locate to the region.

And then you will have JOBS.

And not just a bunch of people on WELFARE buying goods from the Walmart/McDonalds-type Oligopolies. Wait for Walmart to start popping up Shop and stay Resorts..

Not too long and they'll offer it all.. just keep feeding the machine... We can all find employment wearing a smiley face at Walmart. Smile because it's in your job description.

D*mn, you hit the nail head-on.
Scares me a little.. I followed that to a 'T'. Actually took it a lot further.
Wish I could rep you 10 more times.

agreed i built a company ffrom $368 up to doing over 2 million a year in sales and had an offer to buy it for 200k which i woudl have had to split with my partner. after taxes i was gonna walk away with like 60k and decided not to sell. taxes are high enough as it is. im not rich yet they still wanna take 40k from me in one swipe in addition to all the income taxes i pay so they can redistribute it to someone else. get lost.

Re-reading, or reading history books might help the get the rich to share more of their wealth. And bearing in mind: Nothing succeeds like excess!

What led to the rich leaving Russia 100 years ago, the rich leaving the North African countries 50-60 years ago, the rich leaving Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, Cambodia, Vietnam?

Any number of them, particularly in Russia and Cambodia, kept thinking the regime change was temporary, it would dissipate, and got locked in! Ah, yes! The basis of optimism is sheer terror!

When the rich Jews left Cairo, the ones that waited too long, were only allowed to take $200 with them upon their departure, and had to leave all material possessions behind, except clothing! Good-bye mansion!

If I were rich, I'd bear history lessons in mind!
