In my state, it's the law (unless you're wealthy). So if mandatory health care coverage is a 'personal freedom' issue, then my question is a perfectly valid one. It doesn't matter if it's a state or federal law. I'm talking about a thing you are legally required to do. And if I am required by law to have health insurance, then why is that a bad thing...? Provided that it is affordable, and the INSURANCE COMPANIES DO WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO... and if they are prohibited from denying/dropping you due to a pre-ex condition-- and they deliver the services THAT YOU ARE PAYING FOR-- then it will certainly be worth it. Newsflash: We are required by law to do lots of things, and prohibited from doing other things.... why is this such a horrible law, that apparently will cause the downfall of humanity?
But since you all are already convinced that this will be an absolute 100% failure.. and you all seem determined that it be so, no matter what it takes, before giving it a chance.. then I don't know what else to say. It's kinda hard to have a rational debate with an attitude like that.
Speaking at the National Press Club on Monday, Shulman downplayed the IRS’s role in enforcing the recent overhaul of the health insurance industry by claiming the agency would not aggressively target individuals who don’t purchase coverage. He noted that the health-care bill expressly forbids the agency from freezing bank accounts, seizing assets or pursuing criminal charges, but when pressed said the IRS would most likely use tax refund offsets to penalize those that don’t comply with the mandate. The IRS uses refund offsets to collect from individuals that owe the federal government a delinquent debt.
Well, you're right ...however teaBAGGERS are so stupid they are also against things that DO benefit them ...they're just too stupid to know!!!!
I was once the recipient of gifts from a friend that had too many "toys" and was gifting me the "old ones". I later learned that his toys were mostly stolen and I was the unwitting recipient of stolen property. Once I knew this, I could no longer accept additional gifts and returned the ones I still had.
Despite benefiting from his illegal activities, I could not condone his activities nor could I continue to willingly participate any longer.
I do not accept the premise that someone who rejects something that benefits them is automatically stupid.
We know double dealing is the norm. I bet there is no where in that bill that says what the IRS will do if there are no refunds to collect. It's pretty easy to assure you are not due any refunds.

This is where the disconnect with reality is on the left, there is no benefit IF IT WAS MINE TO BEGIN WITH.
I am in my 30s and I have zero expectation that Socialism Security or Medicare will even exist by the time I am retirement age so I am very proactive with my retirement investing.
Each and every dime that is taken from my paycheck I will NEVER see again.
It is going into the pockets of many people like the Tea Party folks are greedy enough to feel that it is ok to bankrupt America with Socialism Security and Medicare because they did not prepare for their financial (and medical) future yet are too selfish to give back to today's children in the form of healthcare coverage.
These same people who are complaining about Healthcare Reform should be happy to help keep the younger generations healthy because we are the ones who have to keep working to pay your SSI and Medicare benefits.
But again, their attitude is "If it doesn't benefit us directly, screw um. I've paid my dues"
That's nonsense. They paid for soemones else's social security.
Next time I go to the doctor I wll send the bill to you. You pay it. Otherwise you are just being selfish.
And who do you think pays the taxes in this country? According to all the demographic data coming out on TP folks it's them. They got a right to say enough is enough. That's the American way.
It's the moochers in this country that don't pay taxes that are the problem.
Your being the selfish one. You want government to use the threat of force to take money from one group to pay the medical bills of another.
That could possibly be the most ridiculous statement I've ever heard.
FYI freeways and roads are self supporting through the various taxes and fess such as the average of 50 cents on gallon people pay at the pump and there is plenty more where that came from. Most likely roads generate revenue for the government.
I know there is a toll road near me that is entirely funded through the tolls and it costs less for the toll than what it costs me for the tax on the gas. It's one of the best highways in the state and to top it off they generate billions that go to the general fund.
That could possibly be the most ridiculous posts I've read....."most likely roads generate revenue" ???? what? You think all raods are toll roads ..whoa...that's the most ridiculous thing I ever read....and stupid!
