OLATHE, Kan. The ACLU has settled a case against the City of Olathe and one of its police officers on behalf of a man ticketed for disorderly conduct when he yelled an expletive and flipped his middle finger at a police officer.

Last September, Scott Schaper was driving his children to school when Olathe police officer Craig Lundgren pulled him over for failing to yield at a stop sign.

Wtf? If I was the cop and someone did that to me, I'd beat them. Just kidding of course but you should respect officers.

Some of them are jerks and deserve a middle finger, IMO, but this officer doesn't sound like one of them. He didn't deserve that kind of treatment for ticketing a guy who clearly and admittedly violated a traffic rule.

Let's see you flip the bird at the President, call him a muslim socialist nazi, but a cop gets special protections? Sorry, what's good for any politician is good for any cop.

The headline doesn't have it quite right. It isn't a payment for someone who "cussed at a cop" it's a small payment for someone who was prosecuted criminally for saying something a police officer didn't like as he drove away from getting a traffic ticket.

It's the infringement on the First Amendment and the abusive prosecution that are the point here.

Another power-drunk cop. Thank God for the ACLU.

Flipping the bird at anyone is deemed legal and protected by our first amendment right to freedom of speech. The only time a middle finger can be deemed illegal is when you actually imply that you want to have sex with the person you are flipping because then it becomes sexual harrassment..

ovcatto doesn't realize that politicians don't get their jobs the same way police men do. I always hear libs say that politicians open themselves up to things like that because of what they are, but he thinks that the President is something special. I wonder what the race of the policeman was. Probably one of those white cops that don't deserve anything but derision.

Now the city (AKA taxpayers) are paying this guy 4K and the ACLU 1K. This is NOT justice! We need tort reform badly as no one flipping off a cop deserves to be rewarded especially as he was violating traffic laws!

The ACLU is nothing but a racketeering operation under the guise of "protecting civil liberties". Let's see how willing they are to do this if the monetary incentives gets taken away! We need tort reform BADLY!
