As a registered repub, I have no problem with people trying to raise funds for the party of their choice. It is called Freedom of Choice. it is the American way.
There's a whole "Cuban-Exiles" component to this story that you seem to not understand at all. Cuban exiles and their children rule Miami. Only after the Elian fiasco did their power become noticable LESS. Gloria Estefan's was two years old when she came to the U.S. so she was involved with the exiles in Miami for years. She broke ranks by having a fund-raiser with President Obama there.

Jorge Mas Canosa died in '97 or'98. Google that name and see what you find. Also Cuban American National Foundation. A good book on the subject of the Cuban exiles in Miami and Cuba is Cuba Confidential by Anne Bardach........great read and very informative regarding the political history of the Cuban exiles in Miami.

Yes, years 2000-2008 saw a huge drift from "R" to "D" among Cubans.

interesting! if I didn't know better I'd think I just read a post from the Miami Herald Cuban Issues forum. LOL so the old exiles in Miami are still hating the newly arrived Cuban "exiles."

The hypocrisy is that these same people relentlessly complain about what Batista and Castro did to them yet they are the ones who continue to act like absolutists.
people who have been "oppressed" often times turn out to be the harshest oppressors when they gain power.

So what difference do you see between Obama and Castro -- apart from the dictator thing - but the Cubans do elect Castro.
You have to be kidding!! Are you totally ignorant of the politics of the Cuban exiles and their children, or are you just slamming the more recent exiles from Cuba?

And many of her Cuban-American neighbors are up in arms over the fundraiser, which is expected to bring in $2.5M for the DNC. The hefty sum seems particularly disturbing to members of the traditionally-Republican community, especially as the Dems and the GOP continue to battle over financial reform to save the country from economic collapse.
"People have been very upset," Ninoska Perez-Castellon, a director of the Cuban Liberty Council told the Florida Sun Sentinel. "It's one thing to have the ear of the president, but what's shocking is that they are doing a fundraiser for Democrats."

Up until this point, the Estefans have claimed to be non-partisan and have spoken out against the Castro regime.

Gloria and Emilio Estefan are people who give a lot of time, effort and money to the Cuban community. You might want to read up on these two exceptional people before you try the one-liners.
